Chapter 106

Tang Xuhai went to the training ground himself and strolled one full round. After that, he came back and kept praising Wen Zhaoming for the terrific job he had done and that he should keep it up in the future.

With a remarkable amount of eagerness, Tang Xuhai put out a training schedule that was densely filled with different components. Looking at it made the ordinary-human members of the corps go weak at the knees.

As Tang Xuhai The Instructor showed off his occupational obsession, he happily included the people from Ping Nan Guild into the training plan and hunted down the first batch of 50 members to start the cruel training that was probably comparable to Hell itself.

Every single day, Miao Jia could only crawl on all fours to leave the training ground, and he never forgot to lament that Tang Xuhai’s regimen was too brutal.

Tang Xuhai made training schedules based on the different physiques of ordinary people, mutants and special ability users. The standard he set for Miao Jia was already the lowest, but it still was enough to make Miao Jia wish he could just zonk out every day.

Due to Fu Shiwu’s special circumstances, although his body was better than that of an ordinary human, it was still far behind a mutant.

This posed a great challenge to Tang Xuhai. If Fu Shiwu was to follow the training regimen of ordinary people, considering that he was a major force who had been fighting against the aliens for a long time, this would do him more harm than good.

Eventually, it was Fu Shiwu who requested to train based on the standard set for mutants.

After training, everyone was really at their last leg. They simply were out like a light and totally didn’t have any time for chit-chat.

Tang Xuhai achieved the goal of leaving Fu Shiwu dead tired on the ground, and he himself also had no spare energy. But, to his own confusion, he somehow felt a tinge of discontent that they didn’t even have time to talk.

When they were in the hospital, it was the longest time the two of them got to be alone. But even though he was in a complicated mood, Tang Xuhai didn’t reveal anything on his face the whole time.

Fu Shiwu only had a contusion in his chest, so he could go to the bathroom to wash himself. Although it was difficult to take a shower because one of his arms was injured, the shy Fu Shiwu refused to let Tang Xuhai help.

This made Tang Xuhai keep grinding his feet on the floor in the ward while Fu Shiwu was showering, feeling that his whole body was about to burst out of anxiety.

So after Fu Shiwu got discharged from the hospital and returned to Villa No. 7, Tang Xuhai simply put all his energy into training to not think about it anymore.

While they rapidly got into training here, the reconstruction of Pei City was orderly carried out. Ping Nan Guild also began to accept some tasks such as construction, searching, planting and production, gradually growing into a full-fledged, stable guild.

Because of Wen Zhaoming’s special circumstances, the amount of training that Tang Xuhai arranged for him was halved, which could roughly be considered a fitness maintenance routine.

Not to mention, they weren’t expecting a man whose stability couldn’t be guaranteed to become the attack force in the next battle. It was enough that he could summon counterattacks within a specific range.

Wen Zhaoming would train for half a day and spend the remaining half dealing with Dragonbone Corps’s external and internal affairs.

Wen Zhaoming bought a piece of land inside The Old Town that was just next to The New Town. After a mission was put up, earth-type ability users were summoned to construct a building to specially house the Ping Nan people who had joined Dragonbone Corps. In this way, they wouldn’t have to stay too far from their families.

Wen Zhaoming was very cautious this time. With the very talented Shao Le leading the screening, a group of people with combat experience were chosen to directly join Dragonbone Corps, while the others, after a brief training by Tang Xuhai, were enlisted as reserve members.

In a short time, Dragonbone Corps’s membership expanded from fewer than ten to sixty.

The prominent corps, however, remained very low-key and didn’t accept any missions after the battle of Pei City. They only kept training day after day, night after night.

After more than 40 days of training, Fu Shiwu was finally able to enter a state of ease from sheer exhaustion, and by this point, November was around the corner.

Fu Shiwu stood in front of the full-length mirror in the room, staring at the texture of his half-naked body.

He heaved a sigh, for although his muscles were no longer soft and weak, they were rather lean. Most of the energy absorbed by the body made his perception ability increase, but no matter how hard he tried to eat more, his muscles refused to grow bigger. When he put on clothes, he still looked thin and frail all the same.

Tang Xuhai even jokingly said that this looks enhanced his deceptiveness very well, which made Fu Shiwu even more distressed.

At this point, Wen Zhaoming came behind the door and knocked: “Shiwu, are you there?”

Fu Shiwu hurriedly put on his shirt, then another sweater and jacket outside: “Yes, give me a moment.

Only after the last button was fastened that Fu Shiwu opened the door and invited Wen Zhaoming in. Wen Zhaoming didn’t care that he opened the door so slowly, and said to Shi Wu with a frown: “We’ve got bad news. Due to a lack of materials, the upgrading of your energy bullet gun has reached a stalemate.”

The corner of Fu Shiwu’s mouth twitched. Given that this was an exchange of interests, Wen Zhaoming had never kept his attention away from the ammunition department and had been meticulously watching their progress.

Fu Shiwu tried to reassure him: “It doesn’t matter. In any case, the aliens aren’t showing any major movements right now. I can just use pistols.”

Wen Zhaoming said in disapproval: “How can it be? Pistols have bullet limitations. Although the energy bullet pistol currently has some shortcomings, in terms of combat endurance, it’ll be your best weapon. Of course, provided that we can solve the material issue. Listen to me, on this account, you can’t give in to the military’s ammunition research department.”

Fu Shiwu creased his eyebrows: “But didn’t they say they’re completely stuck?”

Wen Zhaoming sneered coldly: “It’s just too difficult and they don’t want to put in so much effort.”

Fu Shiwu raised an eyebrow: “What do you mean?”

Wen Zhaoming pondered for a moment before continuing: “Based on the information we’ve heard, the Institute of Science’s Applied Physics department could now produce an extremely strong material that is not only temperature-resistant but also very durable. But, the only problem is that the manufacturing costs are too high, making it quite a challenge.” Saying so, Wen Zhaoming pursed his lips in dissatisfaction: “They have the materials, that’s why they want to boost the costs up. It isn’t like there’s no way out.”

After thniking it through, Fu Shiwu said: “Then it isn’t necessary to argue with the military’s ammunition department. Let’s take things into our own hands. They aren’t all that important, but it won’t benefit us to quarrel.”

Wen Zhaoming was stunned, then he patted his forehead with annoyance: “Aiz… Seriously! I’ve forgotten the most important thing, to patronise them!”

Wen Zhaoming said sternly: “You’re right, I’ll contact the Institute of Science to learn more about the specific situation.”

After that, Wen Zhaoming immediately turned around and left. It wasn’t until he walked past Fu Shiwu’s room door that Wen Zhaoming breathed a sigh of relief and a layer of cold sweat broke out on his back.

It was lucky that Fu Shiwu’s words made him snap out of it. Otherwise, Wen Zhaoming would still be drunk in arrogance that they had continuously been the victor.

These days, through the various affairs he handled, including those concerning the military and Pei City, he seemed to have returned to the days before the sky veil opened, when his work was smooth and made him full of energy. This had made him feel a tad bit too confident and prideful, persistently wanting to use negotiation or other means to force the ammunition department to compromise and to achieve the goal at the lowest cost.

He couldn’t help but ignore the current state of the apocalypse. The old social structure had broken and new norms were being established. Aliens were running rampant outside while special ability animals were wreaking havoc under broad daylight. It wasn’t the time to make a fuss over petty profits. No matter what the price was, it would be in their best interest to obtain new weapons by whatever means.

Wen Zhaoming shook his head and exhaled: “Too careless, too laid back.”

He stroked his neck and smiled wryly. This peaceful life had lasted only more than 40 days, so how could he forget the constant threat of death in their face and just relax his mind like this?

A beam of light sharply flashed in Wen Zhaoming’s eyes and he headed downstairs.

In the beginning, Fu Shiwu lived in the main building of Villa No. 7, but a while later, as Dragonbone Corps officially began to expand, Fu Shiwu moved to the left building and turned the third floor of the main building into an office.

Perhaps he had managed to arrive at a solution, for two days later, Wen Zhaoming came knocking on Fu Shiwu’s door again with an expression that exuded both excitement and worries.

“Shiwu, I’m done with the negotiation.” Wen Zhaoming looked at him cautiously with a smile on his face.

Fu Shiwu was pleasantly surprised: “So fast?!” Then he wondered: “How could it be so smooth? Didn’t the ammunition department say that the costs are over the odds and it’s difficult to make?”

Wen Zhaoming’s expression turned complicated for a brief moment, then he said helplessly: “It’s only difficult for them. Though I went through quite a bit of obstacle, our goal was still achieved.”

Feeling a bad premonition bubbling in his heart, Fu Shiwu pursed his lips: “Is it that they want us to obtain something impossible?”

With a sheepish smile, Wen Zhaoming said feebly: “How could it be? For you, it’s very easy, really, very easy. Just go to the Institute of Science and cooperate with that Dr. Zuo to do a series of inspections…”

Fu Shiwu’s eyes turned more and more terrifying and his aura grew more and more intimidating. Wen Zhaoming was so frightened that he didn’t dare to beat around the bush any further and reveal everything.

Wen Zhaoming actually first asked Miao Jia to find out who was in charge of the project of developing and creating new materials in the Department of Applied Physics at the Institute of Science. Miao Jia came back and informed him that this was someone they already met once, Ouyang Cheng.

Since they were acquainted, Wen Zhaoming thought he could have an easier time. He directly went to him and asked for guns to be created using the new material.

But, the man turned him down without even a shred of hesitation. Not getting hasty, Wen Zhaoming calmly and slowly talked to the man to find out why he rejected the proposal.

It turned out that Ouyang Cheng was also a special ability user, but his ability was a bit special. He was able to manifest high temperature and high pressure in a very short time.

The new material Ouyang Cheng researched and created was very similar to natural ceramic in the real world. Natural ceramic could be formed in nature under extreme conditions, its hardness possibly higher than that of diamond, and it was exceptionally resistant to high temperature. When volcanoes erupted under the sea, releasing magma that engulfed all the shellfish then cooled down, this substance was forged in such a harsh environment.

Ouyang Cheng accidentally made this when he was experimenting with his own ability, but even so, he could only create a small piece.

That little bit was only enough to make a gun trigger.

In order to manufacture a number of standard pistols that could be fitted with magazines, Ouyang would need to spend lots of effort for at least several months, so it was no wonder that Ouyang rejected the request.

Had he been any ordinary person, he might’ve been willing to do it in exchange for a large amount of Civil Points. He could do nothing but focus solely on creating this kind of natural ceramic that he himself had named ‘steel ceramic’. But, regretfully, Ouyang was a scientist, and he had his own research to be occupied with.

It also wasn’t that Wen Zhaoming hadn’t tried to impress him by increasing the reward. Unfortunately, Ouyang Cheng was absolutely unmoved.

Just when Wen Zhaoming’s heart was full of distress (but his expression remained blank), Ouyang Cheng eventually remembered to ask who he was and recalled that Wen Zhaoming was with Fu Shiwu.

This was when things finally turned around. Ouyang changed his mind. As long as Fu Shiwu agreed to cooperate with Dr. Zuo for a detailed inspection, Ouyang Cheng could help Wen Zhaoming to make the new-material guns.

…. Michelle?

Seeing how it has been over a year since you last updated ID… I came back to ask what happened. I saw you updating TGL and SU, with the former being finished already, so…. will you continue ID as well?

I mean, I saw this novel being picked up and re-translated from Ch. 1 by someone else, but before I start going over there to read, I want to inquire if you really dropped ID.

Because if not, I’ll be obedient and wait here for the next update 😀
