Chapter 90

As the two of them walked out of the Biology building, Fu Shiwu asked Tang Xuhai: “Should we go for that test?”

Tang Xuhai pondered for a moment and said: “Let’s go back first. If it’s to check the level of our special abilities, everyone certainly will want to take the test too.”

Previously, Miao Jia had scouted the Internet for research reports on the heterogeneous molecule, but at that point, there wasn’t much content listed in detail.

By the time Tang Xuhai and Fu Shiwu went back, it was still early, so as soon as Fu Shiwu got off Tang Xuhai left Villa No.7 once again, saying that he wanted to find something from the army.

Only Liu Peqi and Fu Shiwu were left at home, so Fu Shiwu immediately thought of preparing lunch.

“Liu Peiqi, what do you want to have for lunch?” Only after wrecking his brain for a while did Fu Shiwu finally stand at the kitchen door and ask Liu Peiqi.

At first, when Fu Shiwu got into the kitchen and didn’t let Liu Peiqi help him, Liu Peiqi honestly felt butterflies in his stomach. After all, Fu Shiwu was the head of the team and their commander. How could he do the work while his subordinate sat idle and waited for food?!

What if I upset him and my life becomes miserable later!

Liu Peiqi stood up and said cautiously in Fu Shiwu’s direction: “Anything is fine, captain. In fact, no one will be picky at the moment, you can just make a casual meal.”

They used to call him ‘Mr. Fu’, but now that the corps had been formally established and each member even had his or her position, Liu Peiqi cleverly decided to switch the way he addressed Fu Shiwu.

Fu Shiwu didn’t pay much attention to this title. Being extremely self-aware, he knew that he didn’t have such a friendly, affectionate image in the eyes of others. It was impossible for everyone to intimately call him by his first name like Tang Xuhai and Wen Zhaoming, or for them to get along like friends.

They now had rice, noodles, oil and plenty of seasonings. But, after leaving the wild and returning to the city, they now had no idea where they could get food.

What a headache.

Testing the waters, Fu Shiwu told Liu Peiqi: “You take the car and go around to see if there’s any market, then wait for Hollande or Zhaoming to return, then you all can shop for food.”

Liu Peiqi nodded: “Okay, captain.”

Without wasting another word, Liu Peiqi took the car key and left Villa No.7.

A quick while later, Wen Zhaoming returned.

“Why are you alone?” Watching Wen Zhaoming walk in, Fu Shiwu felt a tad perplexed. This was a sight much different from the one Fu Shiwu was familiar with, in which Wen Zhaomign used to sit in the wheelchair. He hadn’t adjusted to this new line of sight.

“We met Liu Peiqi at the door, so Miao Jia got off and went with him. We went around to inquire before heading back. There are several markets in the East Development Zone, which are supplied with vegetables from gardens on the outskirts of the city.”

“Are they expensive?” Fu Shiwu asked as Wen Zhaoming walked over to the sofa.

“Still okay, the price isn’t very high. After all, the vegetables and grains are now grown by wood-type special ability users, so the costs are much lower than before.” Wen Zhaoming sat down and heaved a long sigh of relief, then, finally remembering something, he pulled out a handful of cards: “This is your ID card. There are Contribution Points and Civil Points in it. Most of the Civil Points that we got from Shi Zheng’s wanted order are on our Corps card. I’ve transferred some to each person’s ID card, enough for daily use and consumption.”

Fu Shiwu received it and took a look. A photo of him laid on the front, which was all rather similar to his original ID card, except that there were now some green stripes on the surface.

“Green stripes indicate a special ability user, while orange stripes indicate a mutant. Ordinary people still use the original ID cards.” Wen Zhaoming explained, putting other people’s cards on the coffee table in the living room.

“What about Hollande’s?” Fu Shiwu asked: “Was it very troublesome?”

In any case, in their team, Hollande was the only foreigner with a different identity, not to mention, it was only the Huaxia Resident Identity System that got re-activated. Probably no one had yet to know how to deal with a foreigner’s identity.

“It’s okay. He’ll apply for a temporary resident ID card. After all, a passport cannot be used to store Points. It’s a special case.” Wen Zhaoming continued: “When he gets to return to the capital and finds his embassy, he may transfer the points stored on this temporary card to his country’s.”

Looking at the ID cards on the coffee table, Fu Shiwu couldn’t help but reach out to pick up Tang Xuhai’s. His face in the photo looked adorably silly. As one would likely expect, none of the team members actually had a super good-looking ID photo.

Fu Shiwu stayed on the sofa and talked about his experience with Tang Xuhai at the Institute of Science.

Wen Zhaoming nodded: “Then let’s go to the Institute of Science in the afternoon. I also want to know how far my ability has grown now.”

The two chit-chatted for a while, one after another showing appreciation for the environment of Pei City and the ease of life that people enjoyed here. It was a sensation immensely contrasting with the feeling of chaos outside.

In the middle of their conversation, Liu Peiqi and Miao Jia came back, and Miao Jia exclaimed at once: “Wow, the market over here is really big, plenty of varieties to buy, but there’s no meat at all.”

“After all, we’re now living on a Contribution Point system, so ordinary people who can’t engage in high-reward jobs can only sell vegetables, scraping by with a small business.” Liu Peiqi came in behind him.

The two were holding some vegetables in their hands.

“Actually, I think since we have Liu ge, it’s good enough to just buy the seeds. We don’t need to spend on the vegetables at all. It’ll be a waste of money~” Miao Jia suggested.

Wen Zhaoming said grumpily: “You want to tire him to death? It’s not like he just grows vegetables all day long and does nothing else?”

“Also, I don’t want to grow veggies, I’m a man who aspires to become a powerful warrior!” Liu Peiqi protested.

Fu Shiwu, with the help of Liu Peiqi and Miao Jia, narrowly managed to cook a table of dishes.

When Tang Xuhai came back, he was wearing an expression so gloomy that no one had the guts to ask any questions and could only call him over for lunch.

Meanwhile, Hollande, Wang Dan and Zhen Zi didn’t turn up at all. It didn’t take lots of brain cells to figure that expecting two women to go shopping and come back before noon was absolutely impossible.

“Don’t wait for them, let’s eat first.” Wen Zhaoming said helplessly.

With a sullen expression, Tang Xuhai remained utterly silent, making the atmosphere so heavy that everyone ate lunch with their stomachs twisting.

After finishing a lunch that was as painstaking as torture, Miao Jia and Liu Peiqi rushed to clean the dishes, leaving only Fu Shiwu and the other two to head to the living room.

“What’s wrong?” Fu Shiwu finally couldn’t help but ask: “Your face is as black as the bottom of a pot.”

Tang Xuhai heaved a deep sigh: “I just learnt that the place where my troops were stationed had been destroyed by the aliens long ago. No one knows if my comrades-in-arms are dead or alive.”

Hearing this, Wen Zhaoming and Fu Shiwu didn’t know what they should say.

“Don’t worry, if you’re this strong, your teammates must be very powerful too.” Fu Shiwu gave him an earnest look: “If you could survive with an injury and two burdens like us back then, they must be fine too!”

Seeing him like this, Tang Xuhai let out a laugh: “To be honest, you two aren’t burdens. His powerful fire ability wasn’t bad at all.”

Tang Xuhai sighed melancholically and eventually stopped thinking about the state of his comrades, whose life and death remained a huge question mark. If they were really alive, one day, they certainly would meet again.

After a short rest to allow the food to digest properly, the five of them took the minivan to the Institute of Science.

As Wen Zhaoming, Miao Qi and Liu Peiqi were here for the first time, they all gaped at the facilities inside the institute with much intrigue.

There were several buildings in this compound, making it look rather like a university at first glance.

“Special Ability Life Forms department…” Fu Shiwu lowered his head and looked at the guide card.

“Here.” Tang Xuhai stood beside him, reaching out his hand and tapping at one point on the map.

The two stood quite close, and Fu Shiwu could even feel the fiery body temperature from Tang Xuhai’s chest that was leaning on his arm.

Although the blazing heat of the end of autumn was still flaring now, Fu Shiwu, whose body temperature was innately low, didn’t dislike this sort of close contact.

This building’s area was noticeably larger than the previous ones, from where the group could even see the building in front of the gate if they raised their heads.

Fu Shiwu felt restlessness bubbling inside, for after all, his ‘ability’ was never really a special ability. Was it finally time to find out?

But would Tang Xuhai and the others feel repulsed by him because of this?

With this uneasiness, Fu Shiwu walked into the very last building with the others.

“Hello, how can I help you?” As soon as the staff member at the service desk saw them, her eyes lit up and she spoke cordially.

“Where may we check the level of our abilities?” Tang Xuhai turned his head.

“You’re checking your ability level? Please pick up the form here, then head go to the second floor to have your blood sample taken. The result will come out in two hours.” The staff member took out five forms.

“I don’t have to, after all, I’m not a special ability user.” Miao Jia pushed one of those back.

“Even if you don’t possess any special ability, you can also check for the heterogeneous cells in your body. The more blood samples we collect, the more beneficial it will be for our nation to build a comprehensive blood profile.” The waiter smiled sincerely and said to Miao Jia: “Would you please support the reestablishment of our scientific database? “

Perhaps the staff girl’s smile is too sweet, so Miao Jia, who had never had much experience with ladies, blankly took the form and followed the others, all while caught in a daze.

A row of counters stood at the corner of the lobby on the first floor, and similar to earlier times, on top of them were plenty of pens fixed to the counter. The group grabbed the pens and leaned on the counter, dutifully filling in the forms.

“Name, age, gender, ethnicity, ability attribute…” Fu Shiwu was a tad troubled, what should he fill in for his ‘ability attribute’?

Metal, wood, water, fire, earth, electricity, wind… He was neither of those.

Miao Jia directly wrote ‘No’ in that column, then stretched his head over to glance at Fu Shiwu’s form: “In this case, Fu ge, you can just write ‘Others’.”

Suddenly enlightened, Fu Shiwu decided to follow suit and penned down ‘Others’ on the Attribute column.
