Chapter 76

Miao Jia had been missing his laptop dearly. By the time they finally found their modified car, all the food and other necessities they had gathered were gone.

Miao Jia climbed into the car and saw that some metal products inside had also been damaged.

This made Miao Jia feel so sad, because he specifically asked Tang Xuhai to design them in such a way that was convenient for him to work.

“My heart~~~” Miao Jia’s voice trembled, for his super-configured laptop also suffered some cracks and warping. Miao Jia carefully checked it, and luckily, the inner parts weren’t damaged and the screen didn’t break either, which meant that he only had to ask Tang Xuhai to help him repair the case. As for the antenna that had completely lost its shape, they could continue using it after restoring it to its original state.

“This useless bunch really doesn’t understand the importance of electronics!” Miao Jia loathfully learnt from Shi Zheng’s manner of cursing: “What a waste of precious resources.”

It was because no one understood the value of these things that they were ruined like this.

Miao Jia lethargically walked towards the library hugging his laptop. Now Fu Shiwu and the others were resting there. After fighting all night, everyone was utterly exhausted.

“But, Hai ge is extremely OP, Fu ge is exceptionally OP, and Wen ge is extraordinarily OP…” With three remarkably strong, thick thighs to hug, Miao Jia became happy just thinking about it.

The existence of such a trustworthy trio was truly reassuring in this chaotic world.

Holding his laptop, Miao Jia quietly opened the door. None of his ges was resting, instead, they were softly discussing what to do with these people in Ping Nan Prison.

“…These civilians, we can’t just leave them by themselves.” Wen Zhaoming creased his eyebrows.

No one knew if he was worried about the survivors who were oppressed by Shi Zheng, or if he was frowning because of the pain in his prostheses.

“But previously, we never thought about what to do with these people?” Fu Shiwu said uncomfortably. Sitting on Shi Zheng’s large and luxurious leather sofa, he looked especially thin, so much so that no one would be able to detect the tremendous strength he hid inside.

Tang Xuhai leaned on the huge sofa very comfortably and said: “At that time, we were rushing to rescue our team and never had the time to think about these suffering people.”

Hearing his choice of words, Miao Jia thought, Hai ge really was a soldier, and he covered his mouth to stealthily let out a laugh. He felt like Tang Xuhai’s tone was similar to that of his director.

“Uhm.” Wen Zhaoming nodded in understanding, for after all, he was one of those who were saved. They were already too busy carrying their own burdens, so where could they even have the nobility to care for these suffering people?

“But now that it has reached this point, we can’t just do nothing. If we don’t care, it’ll turn into a real mess with so many people.”

Fu Shiwu nodded: “Before, they didn’t dare to do anything because Shi Zheng was a mountain that hung above their head. But now, the supplies left behind by the Wild Wolf Gang will surely cause riots.”

While scanning the surrounding environment with his perception earlier, Fu Shiwu had discovered the Wild Wolf Gang’s abundant reserves.

After all, Shi Zheng’s gang monopolised the entire Ping Nan town, and the survivors in this place were like those back in Yun City who didn’t have the guts to make any move. But even though they had been horribly exploited by these vile gangsters, now that the ordeal was over, they could grab a considerable amount of valuables from this prison.

Gold, jewellery and the likes were stacked in boxes in all corners, not to mention the barrels of gasoline, tobacco, alcohol, food, clothing, quilts and many more.

When Fu Shiwu himself laid eyes on those things, even he felt his heart thud a little, let alone these cautious, oppressed survivors.

Wen Zhaoming said after thinking for a moment: “With our current situation, there’s no way to manage them. The only way is to let them go to the survivor base at the military district.”

“Do we want to take them along?” Tang Xuhai said unexpectedly.

“Uhm, the best case scenario is we let them manage themselves.” Wen Zhaoming’s eyes flashed, then he continued with a hint of regret in his voice: “If we have our own base, these people will form a great foundation since they all owe us a huge favour. But unfortunately…”

Fu Shiwu looked at him and was a bit lost for words. Wen Zhaoming truly harboured a big ambition. Does he also want to build a separate force like Shi Zheng did?

It might be exhilarating to think of such an idea, but the truth was that the increasingly stronger aliens would crush any base with weak foundations.

Tang Xuhai laughed dryly, for he disliked these troublesome things the most. To ask him to manage a team, someone else had to take care of the logistics. This man was a soldier who only cared about killing but couldn’t care less about burying, and he surely was far from being that sort of turtle-speed administrative staff. Regarding these things, Tang Xuhai would simply let Lao Wen take his imagination to the clouds!

Wen Zhaoming said: “Our manpower isn’t aplenty, and the supplies we could carry are limited. It’s better to distribute most of Shi Zheng’s supplies to the survivors, while we ourselves only take the most necessary items.”

Miao Jia could no longer hold his horses the moment he heard these words. He leaned over and interjected: “Yes, yes! I think we should mainly bring gold and jewellery!”

Tang Xuhai pressed his head down and said angrily: “Don’t you know that those things are heavy? Besides, these things are only valuable when they’re scarce. Try to smash a ton of gold into a tiny market, they’ll immediately become worthless!”

Wen Zhaoming agreed: “Xuhai is right. The values of gold and jewellery are depreciating drastically now. Although they may still act as a certain currency in the future, right now, with the messy state that the world is in, they’re no different from scrap metals.”

“Ah?” Miao Jia wondered: “Why do you say so? Even during wars in the past, gold was a strong currency.”

“That was when the entire humanity was still able to produce normally, and the turmoil in only one country wouldn’t affect the international price of gold. But now, the global economy is collapsing. What basis is there to boost the price of gold?” Wen Zhaoming said.

Miao Jia scratched his head dejectedly. This subject matter was too complicated for him to process.

Fu Shiwu also had his eyes circling in awe. He wasn’t totally clear about this, but it surely sounded like Wen Zhaoming knew his stuff.

Tang Xuhai was hugging his arms so very leisurely. In fact, he didn’t fully understand either, but he definitely wouldn’t advocate bringing whatever gold or silver.

“Okay then, so what is the most valuable thing now?” After a moment of frustration, Miao Jia decided to humbly ask Wen Zhaoming, the actual businessman here.

Wen Zhaoming said as-a-matter-of-factly: “It’s ourselves. The most valuable thing now is the abilities of special ability users!”

“Huh??” Miao Jia was completely confused by his words.

Fu Shiwu repeated: “Ourselves?”

Wen Zhaoming nodded seriously: “Yes. Everything in this world is assigned a value because of us humans. Now, the emergence of heterogeneous molecules has changed everything. The constitution of the human society has undergone a major transformation, or it can even be said that a new era has begun.”

“Humans with special abilities are no longer humans in the traditional sense, and everything is now subject to major changes due to these abilities.” Whatever Wen Zhaoming came to discover after surviving the explosion earlier, he explained and shared it with his teammates at this point: “Don’t you understand yet? As long as we’re in possession of special abilities, we’ll have everything we need to survive. Thus, we only have to take the necessary items. When we’re in need of something else, with our abilities, there definitely will be a way to obtain it.”

Fu Shiwu’s expression was complicated. Although Wen Zhaoming made sense, his ‘ability’ wasn’t actually a special ability. An inexplicable sadness of being excluded by his dearest friends somehow surged in his heart…

Tang Xuhai nodded: “If you say it in that way, I understand. We can rely on our own force to snatch things.”

Wen Zhaoming was choked by such a bandit-style conclusion. How come his brilliant enlightenment became like that in Tang Xuhai’s mouth?

Miao Jia also came to a realisation: “Basically this is the rule of ‘power is justice’?”

Wen Zhaoming felt everything before his eyes almost turn pitch black. Really, this is what happens when a geek meets a soldier!

Only Fu Shiwu chuckled gleefully. Finally it wasn’t only him that was defeated by Tang Xuhai’s venomous tongue.

“Okay! It’s settled. I’ll find someone to maintain the order and let them distribute the supplies among themselves. I’ll go pick some useful items first, and see how our car is doing on the way.” Tang Xuhai clapped his hands and stood up.

Miao Jia hurriedly ran to his side and put up a bootlicking smile: “Hai ge~~~ Look at my laptop, can you help me fix it?… And the antenna on our modified car has also been damaged by them…”

Miao Jia endlessly blabbered to Tang Xuhai. Reaching the door, Tang Xuhai turned around and said to the other two: “You two take a rest first, I’ll call you when we’re about to leave.”

Wen Zhaoming simply leaned his head on the back of the sofa, murmuring something to himself and looking like he was in a gloomy mood. On the other hand, Fu Shiwu waved at Tang Xuhai, looking as though his mood couldn’t be any better.

After leaving the library, Tang Xuhai quickly repaired the damaged metal products inside their car. He then bent down and picked up a portable hard drive that was tossed at a corner. He held it up and asked: “Miao Jia, put this away.”

Miao Jia was adjusting the satellite signal and couldn’t wait to get connected. He briefly looked up and said: “That is not mine.”

“It’s not yours?” Tang Xuhai repeated. He looked at the item in his hand and pondered for a moment. It probably belonged to Fu Shiwu.

“It should be Shiwu’s. I’ll just put it here, you help me keep it.”

Only now did Miao Jia straighten up and take the drive. He mumbled a “yes”, lowered his head and looked carefully, then he couldn’t help furrowing his brows: “This hard drive is broken.”

“Broken?” Tang Xuhai looked over to find that the middle of the hard drive had been smashed, leaving a dent on the surface.

After all, this thing wasn’t as sturdy as Miao Jia’s customised computer. No one knew how Shi Zheng’s underlings tossed this around and knocked a hole into it like this.

“Uhm,” Miao Jia nodded: “Look at this, maybe the data inside is damaged.”

Tang Xuhai contemplated for a second and took back the hard drive. He’d better let Shiwu take a look at it by himself.

Tang Xuhai carried the hard drive, made one round around the place where the supplies were piled up and went to look for Liu Zhao and Wu Shan. After asking them to fill up the modified car with gas and select two spacious cars for their own use, Tang Xuhai picked up everything they needed, filled up the trunks of the two cars, then he generously opened the warehouse door and let the civilians come in to take their supplies.

His distribution was extremely fair, and not a single piece of gold or jewellery was left behind. There seemed to be a lot of these initially, but now that they were divided equally, everyone didn’t have much. Nevertheless, the civilians were incredibly grateful.

The small number of cars available were prioritised for women who had been abused and humiliated by the gang, while the rest would walk on foot.

Tang Xuhai said with a grim expression: “On this journey, you can only rely on yourselves. If you don’t want to go, you can stay here.”

However, no one wanted to stay in this place. Without Shi Zheng, this brutal fortress was no longer safe. They would rather take the risk and follow these people.

“It isn’t a problem. We can protect ourselves.”

Tang Xuhai nodded, for that was all he needed to hear. He wasn’t a man with three heads and six arms. With only 11 of them in the team, it was impossible to guarantee the safety of more than 10,000 people.

Yayy! Thank goodness it all ended well (except for maybe the hard drive and their old supplies). Totally didn’t expect this sort of escalation from a single road block. But everyone’s getting stronger, and they have Zhen Zi now!

Thanks for the chapters 💗💗💗
