Chapter 62

As Tang Xuhai’s situation was getting bad, there was an unexpected turnaround on Fu Shiwu’s side.

Seeing that he couldn’t deal with Tang Xuhai while over there, Huo Enting was keeping his defence completely impenetrable, Li Jixian sneaked around the other direction and attacked Fu Shiwu from the side, across the road railings.

Fu Shiwu wasn’t turning on his ‘perception’ right now, but his reaction was very fast. The moment Li Jixian stabbed at him with a dagger in his hand, Fu Shiwu swiftly dodged and slammed Li Jixian’s wrist.

Since he had been keeping his eyes solely on Tang Xuhai, Fu Shiwu was at a disadvantage. Quickly coming back to his senses, he was about to get out of the car when he realised he was in a passive position compared to Li Jixian, who was standing just outside the car.

Wen Zhaoming had also been paying attention to the situation outside. Li Jixian suddenly appearing from the side had him almost jump. As soon as a fireball was summoned in his hand, he shot it out.

Frightened, Li Jixian hurriedly pulled the dagger back from Fu Shiwu’s resistance. He didn’t expect that there would be a fire-type ability user here.

Even though Fu Shiwu was feeling both fearful and furious, seeing Li Jixian retreating, he immediately swung the door open and ran out of the car.

Feeling his nerves piling up and seeing Fu Shiwu being all thin and fragile-looking, Li Jixian pounced at him, his mind forming an idea of dragging this man to be his hostage.

Although Fu Shiwu had toughened up and his courage had been reinforced manyfold since the apocalypse started, he had mostly gone through only long-range fighting. Close combat was still his fatal shortcoming. Being attacked within such a short distance, he was immediately caught off guard.

Fu Shiwu had no room to draw his pistol, and soon, Li Jixian launched several deep cuts into Fu Shiwu’s arm and shoulder.

Catching a glimpse of blood, Li Jixian’s eyes turned red and his lips tugged up into a devious smile.

“Shiwu!!” Wen Zhaoming shouted nervously. With those two standing too close to each other, Wen Zhaoming wasn’t sure that he could use his fire powers without hurting Fu Shiwu.

Wen Zhaoming’s anxious scream immediately pierced Tang Xuhai’s tense nerves. As his heart thumped heavily, he immediately jumped out of the burning man’s attack range with a few backflips and hurriedly looked back.

Under the illumination of the flames, the sight of Fu Shiwu’s coat oozing crimson blood immediately made Tang Xuhai’s blood boil.

Almost without thinking, he threw the sword in his hand!

Propelled with immense anger and carrying with it an ear-splitting screech, the Dragonbone sword cut through the blazing air and crisply thrust into Li Jixian’s stomach.

“Ah —” Li Jixian’s body stiffened in utter disbelief. He stared straight at Fu Shiwu’s expression that was both flustered yet icy cold at the same time, made a few steps back and slumped down while clutching the sword hilt that protruded out.

Fu Shiwu took a few deep breaths and looked back at Tang Xuhai.

“Be careful!” He yelled.

Tang Xuhai immediately jumped from the spot and onto the roof of their modified car.

In the blink of an eye, a fire pillar strayed past the spot where he left.

As Tang Xuhai squatted on top of the modified car, he squinted and let out a cold snort, then he jumped down. The second he flipped down, his arm was still holding firmly onto the car roof.

As though the car roof was glued to his hand, Tang Xuhai pulled it up directly from the car body.

In Tang Xuhai’s hand, the metal roof slowly morphed and turned into a shield!

If duo swords weren’t fitting for this battle, let’s fight with a shield in hand!

Tang Xuhai gave an earth-shattering scream as his sharp eyes gazed intently at the giant burning man and his hand held up the shield to block the man’s swinging fire arms. With the size of a whole car roof, the shield steadily protected Tang Xuhai behind.

Feeling the shield’s defence gradually dropping, Tang Xuhai quickly took advantage of the timing and forcefully slammed into the burning man’s body while the shield continued to withstand the powerful heat.

The great force pushed the fire-type ability user to wobble back.

“Arghhh!!!” Tang Xuhai roared ferociously, pushing the shield that was heating up and quickly transforming a second time. A square column poked out from the center of the shield, launching a heavy hit on the burning man.

The spot that was hit was nicely the fire-type ability user’s stomach. With his internal organs permeated, the intense flames on his body stared to shrink.

Tang Xuhai’s eyes flickered as he was finally able to tell apart the man’s real body and the flames engulfing him. After he swiftly took two steps back, the shield and the Dragonbone sword in his hand turned into a giant greatsword.

Tang Xuhai firmly slammed his feet on the ground and fiercely turned his waist. With immense strength, he swung the greatsword and slashed it at the fire-type ability user!

With a clearly audible sound of bones cracking, the flames were totally extinguished and the man’s flesh and blood flew everywhere as his body was split into two.

“Huff — huff — huff —” Tang Xuhai panted heavily along with his heart that was beating like mad, the greatsword in his hand leaning on the ground.

With the death of the fire-type ability user, the scene around them suddenly turned solemn.

The robbers who luckily survived thus far immediately ran away.

It was impossible to not flee. These men… each of them was stronger than the previous. The leader and the second-in-command had been sent straight to Hell. They were only mutants; how could they even hope to win?

“Don’t let them off!” Tang Xuhai let out a sharp scream.

In the dark night, the modified car’s headlights shined on a very large area, and the backs of those who fled could still vaguely be seen. Hearing Tang Xuhai’s overbearing scream, they only wished they could grow two more legs to run faster.

Fu Shiwu hesitated for a quick moment, then he pulled out his pistol and fired at those men with incredibly cold eyes.

The crisp sounds of the bullets pierced through the night sky, and Fu Shiwu, who had turned on his ‘perception’, swiftly had those men slump to the ground one by one.

Tang Xuhai still felt uneasy and ran over by himself. Seeing that, Fu Shiwu immediately chased after, his mind completely leaving behind the fact that he had just carried out his first kill of real humans.

“Xuhai!” Fu Shiwu rushed to Tang Xuhai’s side and watched him flipped these people over with his feet before checking whether they were still alive.

“Why do we have to kill them all?” Fu Shiwu asked with puzzlement.

He didn’t sympathise with these people, but they were just some bad guys who blocked the road and robbed off others. Was it necessary to spend that much effort to wipe them all out? As long as the leader was killed, these mutants alone wouldn’t be able to do anything and would soon fall out.

The greatsword in Tang Xuhai’s hand was dripping blood. Tang Xuhai stretched out his hand to pull Fu Shiwu’s arm: “Let’s go back first, then we’ll talk about it.”

He scanned the surrounding area in vigilance but found nothing suspicious.

Seeing Tang Xuhai being so cautious, Fu Shiwu also put up his alertness. Under the bright light from the modified car, Fu Shiwu glanced at Tang Xuhai from time to time.

When they returned to the place where their cars had stopped, Huo Enting and the others were all standing around, and even Wen Zhaoming was there in his wheelchair.

“We have to be more careful on the road ahead. We can’t go to Ping Nan town! Let’s take a detour.” Tang Xuhai said in a deep voice.

“Huh? Why?” Miao Jia’s eyes widened: “We don’t have enough gas!”

“Even if we have to push the car or walk on foot, we have to detour!” Tang Xuhai said sternly.

Fu Shiwu pushed his glasses up and reached out one hand to pat Tang Xuhai on the back: “Xuhai, calm down first. Even if we have to do so, you have to tell us the reason first.”

Tang Xuhai’s distrubed mood was slightly lifted. He took a deep breath and said: “This gang of robbers are not ordinary people. They work under Wolf Head Shi Zheng! Shi Zheng was caught during an army operation when I was still a soldier. This person is a notorious arms dealer in the East Asia region. Considering his cruel nature, if Ping Nan town has fallen into his hands, even without thinking about it, I could still guess what kind of hell the town has turned into. In short, we can’t go there!”

“What what?!” Miao Jia blinked in astonishment: “An arms dealer?!”

Hearing so, the others were all massively shocked, and soon a commotion rose on the spot.

During their peaceful time, the emergence of such a term like ‘arms dealer’ would simply be beyond anyone’s imagination.

“But why wasn’t this person executed?” Fu Shiwu asked suspiciously: “If he was caught when you were still a soldier, it has been more than 2 years since then. Why is he still alive? Criminals like him are generally put on death row, aren’t they?”

“We thought of using him to wipe out his remaining power.” Tang Xuhai said with uncertainty cast over his face: “Back when I caught him, the second-in-command of the Wild Wolf Gang was still at large.”

“Understood.” Wen Zhaoming nodded: “So presumably, he could be used as a bait or a bargaining chip at the critical moment.”

Tang Xuhai didn’t respond, but it was very likely the reason why Shi Zheng was kept alive. However, no one would think that there would be a sudden apocalypse. Not only did Shi Zheng blatantly get rid of his shackles, he also turned the situation completely around. Now he occupied the town as the king!

What kind of ridiculous reality was this?

Before they could talk about whether it was possible to safely pass Ping Nan town, if Shi Zheng knew that the man who brought him to prison was here, he would definitely run here to take revenge. No wonder Tang Xuhai asked not to let those men off.

Everyone looked at Tang Xuhai anxiously, wondering what they should do next.

Wen Zhaoming thought for a moment and asked: “Is there anyone alive?”

Huo Enting was taken aback for a moment, then he nodded: “Yes.”

With his water bullet technique, if the bullets didn’t hit critical points, the enemies would only be left with bloody holes. They could still struggle for a while before shedding all their blood.

In the face of aliens, he could still calmly inflict fatal damage, but these robbers were humans after all, so he couldn’t simply kill them off and resorted to letting them die a slow death after losing too much blood.

“Find someone. I’ll ask him the details.” Tang Xuhai said coldly.

Liu Zhao, Wu Shan, Ma Dong and the others stepped back. They couldn’t bear to look at people slowly dying yet still being interrogated. On the other hand, Huo Enting, Hollande, Wang Dan and Liu Peiqi followed.

Miao Jia pushed Wen Zhaoming over and Fu Shiwu walked behind Tang Xuhai.

Tang Xuhai walked across a pool of blood to reach a man dragged out by Huo Enting, who was taking his long, feeble last breaths. Tang Xuhai directly grabbed the robber whose body was full of bloody holes and lifted him up.

“I’m here to ask you something, and you have to answer truthfully. If you answer well, I can grant you an easy death.” Tang Xuhai said coldly.

He knew well what went through the mind of these desperadoes. It was a great temptation for them to be able to die a neat, quick death.

“Go ahead.” The sly man opposite him answered, his tone almost glazed with delight.
