At this point, Huo Enting also stepped out of the car and said: “I’ll go up with you, I’m not tired anyway.”

Huo Enting had been keeping a rather slow speed with the modified car, and he planned to have someone else replace him soon.

Tang Xuhai thought for a moment. Wen Zhaoming was a special ability user, while the others were all mutants. As long as they didn’t encounter any special ability animals, they should still be safe.

Then he cast a questioning glance at Fu Shiwu and felt that the guy was indeed a little tired. You always say that I’m too stubborn, aren’t you also the same?

In the end, it was Tang Xuhai, Fu Shiwu and Huo Enting who travelled up the mountain while the others set up a bonfire and started cooking.

After Huo Enting filled the pot with water and gave the team some water to use for washing, the three took their leave.

The road up the mountain was particularly steep. Years of being bounced on by the rain and stepped on by humans had made this road so rugged and bumpy. Tang Xuhai and Fu Shiwu were still okay, but Huo Enting was donning a pair of leather shoes, which made walking on such uneven ground challenging.

Tang Xuhai glanced at the extremely high-quality leather shoes on Huo Enting’s feet. Although those shoes didn’t match the clothes he had on him, which were taken from Raoxian town, it didn’t quite affect the aura of a rich young master that Huo Enting always wore with him.

Seeing Huo Enting all dressed up, Tang Xuhai couldn’t help but be reminded of Fu Shiwu, who also put on a pair of leather shoes when he first came on this escape journey.

The three of them walked for half an hour before reaching the mountain village that Miao Jia mentioned.

Before their eyes was a small car with a cargo holder behind. Tang Xuhai opened the fuel tank to find lots of gas in it.

“Bring the hose.” Tang Xuhai rushed to Fu Shi Wu and stretched out his hand.

Clutching hose handed to him by Fu Shiwu, Tang Xuhai swiftly sucked out the gasoline and put it into the empty container held by Huo Enting. The container was actually found right next to the vehicle.

After rummaging through one house, the three went around the village again and found two more cars, where they were also able to obtain more gasoline.

“With this, we have enough to detour around Ping Nan town.” Tang Xuhai tightened the lid with satisfaction.

As Fu Shiwu put away the hose, Huo Enting took the initiative to carry the gas container, and the three of them walked back.

To be frank, they were all hungry and couldn’t wait to have this breakfast.

The way down the mountain was much easier than the way up. Before they could feel like any time had passed, the three men were already back to the fork in the road.

But what they saw had all three scared out of their wits, to the point that Huo Enting almost threw the gas container in his hand.

No one was here!

There was only a bloody mess on the ground, together with some skid marks left behind by car tyres.

“What happened?!” Fu Shiwu exclaimed in absolute shock.

Tang Xuhai’s first reaction was that they had been taken away by Shi Zheng’s men.

“Wait a second! Both of you, calm down!” Tang Xuhai raised his hand.

Then he stopped paying any mind to the other two and started inspecting the marks on the ground.

A moment later, Tang Xuhai stood up, letting out a curse.

“You know where they went?” Fu Shiwu said worriedly.

“No, they didn’t leave on their own volition.” Tang Xuhai pointed to the skid marks and said: “This brake mark isn’t from our car, but a small truck.”

Fu Shiwu looked at the shallow marks on the concrete floor, but he couldn’t quite point out the difference.

“It looks like they drove over all of a sudden.” Huo Enting voiced his scrutinisation.

“Uhm, and they also carry guns.” Tang Xuhai picked up a bullet cartridge from the grass nearby.

Fu Shiwu couldn’t identify the rationale behind this whole mess. He could only see that things had gone amok, with the bonfire still left burning on the ground and kitchen utensils scattered around.

He simply closed his eyes and turned on ‘perception’, at which point he immediately saw the source of the problem.

Tang Xuhai looked at him in surprise: “What can you see?”

Shi Zheng was a sinister, calculating man. It wasn’t impossible for him to set up someone to secretly watch over the group of robbers in the morning.

“Then how did he track us down?” Fu Shiwu asked puzzlingly: “Isn’t this too fast?” 

Tang Xuhai hugged his arms and thought deeply: “He has so many people under him. If they scatter around to chase after us, it’s probable.”

“What shall we do now?” Fu Shiwu asked.

“What do you think?” Tang Xuhai asked back.

“Can we rescue them?” Fu Shiwu said.

Tang Xuhai said, his expression blank: “If we are to save them, we may not succeed, not to mention we may die. I don’t want to make it sound so horrible, but as soon as Shi Zheng catches sight of me, he definitely won’t let go of those who are with me.”

Seeing Fu Shiwu’s expression change, Tang Xuhai continued: “We now have enough gas, and there are also cars in that mountain village. If the three of us turn a blind eye to the others and simply detour, we can arrive at the military base in less than two days.”

Huo Enting’s eyebrows twitched.

Without even having to think about it, Fu Shiwu said at once: “We can’t leave them behind.” He felt immensely distressed, but he wasn’t good at letting his thoughts known to others. It was difficult enough to be able to clearly say what he was thinking: “Absolutely not!”

Wen Zhaoming had been with them since they left Heavenly Gardens. As for the others, although they had only met not long ago, they had fought side by side together.

Huo Enting took a deep breath, nodding over and over: “We have to find a way to save them.”

Tang Xuhai’s expression seemed slightly intrigued. He said to Huo Enting: “Aren’t you scared of dying?”

Huo Enting said: “We’re a team, aren’t we? We should go through thick and thin together.”

The corner of Tang Xuhai’s mouth curled up into a smile: “Then let’s go together.”

“?” Fu Shiwu was stunned. He really thought Tang Xuhai would turn them down completely, otherwise, why would he mention that they would probably die? 

“You don’t object?”

“I originally planned that if you two continue to head to the military district, I’ll go to Ping Nan town by myself.” Tang Xuhai said sternly: “Since you both know that we’re going to be on very dangerous ground, you must be ready for anything that may come, understand?” 

“Uhm!” Fu Shiwu nodded.

“Very good!” Tang Xuhai said appreciatively.

After coming to an agreement, the three returned to the village, injected gasoline into a car and drove directly to Ping Nan town.

As Tang Xuhai kept the wheel, Huo Enting sat in the passenger seat while Fu Shiwu and Tang Xuhai’s greatsword stayed at the back.

“I plan to directly charge in from the front gate then directly head to see Shi Zheng.” Tang Xuhai said calmly: “It would be best if we can get him to agree that I’ll be his hostage in place of the others. If it’s only me, I may be able to escape safely.”

“This is unlikely.” Huo Enting shook his head: “Since you mentioned that Shi Zheng is cruel, if you’ve already stepped into his territory, how can he allow you to take their place?”

“If it’s still before the apocalypse, I can still sneak in.” Tang Xuhai glanced at Huo Enting and said: “But now that the aliens are landing at night, they probably keep the place very strictly guarded. If the guards are special ability users and mutants, I’m not so sure that I can deal with them all.”

“My ability is metal type, and Huo Enting’s is water type.” Tang Xuhai said: “I can just pick up any item made of metal and turn it into a weapon. And they can’t easily defend against Huo Enting’s water bullets.”

“But don’t forget, if they’ve seen the scene this morning, they definitely know that there’s a powerful water-type ability user among us.” Fu Shiwu said.

Huo Enting also didn’t think he would be able to make people lose their vigilance so easily: “It’s indeed difficult.” 

The car fell into complete silence. The more they thought about their imminent peril, the less they believed that they could come out of it alive.

Fu Shiwu touched Tang Xuhai’s weighty greatsword and suddenly remembered something. He turned to Tang Xuhai: “Xuhai, I have a proposal, but I don’t know if you want to risk it?”
