Chapter 6

Seeing Fu Shiwu follow after him, Green T-Shirt blatantly loosened up. Perhaps he wasn’t as bold as he claimed himself to be.

“Shall we take the elevator directly to the 20th floor?” Green T-Shirt asked him.

Fu Shiwu pushed his glasses and replied in a serious tone: “Okay.”

The two waited for a while for the door to open and walked into the empty elevator, after which Green T-Shirt directly pressed the ‘20’ button.

“Once we reach there, let’s look for him floor by floor.” Green T-Shirt said.

“Uhm.” Fu Shiwu nervously clenched the watermelon knife in his hand.

Green T-Shirt tried to talk to him but Fu Shiwu just kept at his usual distant expression, so the man stopped trying altogether and simply staring at the jumping numbers on the elevator.

The closer they moved to 20, the faster Fu Shiwu’s heart beat and the more rapid his panting became.

Seeing him getting too anxious, Green T-Shirt smiled: “Don’t be so nervous, we definitely won’t meet him so soon.”

The corner of Fu Shiwu’s mouth twitched slightly. Who can be so sure about this probability?

As the elevator stopped on the 20th floor with a soft “ding”, Fu Shiwu pointed the watermelon knife straight at the door.

The door opened and no one was there.

Fu Shiwu heaved a sigh of relief as sweats poured down his  whole body, layer by layer.

Green T-Shirt shivered a little as he held onto the baseball bat, saying: “Go have a look, I will stay here.”

Fu Shiwu walked out of the elevator in full vigilance to find that the entire corridor was quiet.

But this was too quiet to be normal.

After the place was quarantined, many people became sick, their family members accompanied them to the hospital and less than one-fifth of the residents remained here, but there should still be more than 200 people in the building.

Although it was daytime now, it couldn’t be this quiet.

Fu Shiwu carried the watermelon knife sideway in front of his chest and walked forward one step at a time, an ominous feeling spreading fast in his heart.

Green T-Shirt’s footsteps gradually became inaudible behind his own. All the nerves on Fu Shiwu tensed up as he scanned his eyes through everything that seemed abnormal.

He was stunned as the corner of his eye caught on something unusual.

“Hello~” Green T-Shirt voiced out as he stood near the elevator entrance: “No one is here, let’s find another place.”

“Wait a minute.” Fu Shiwu said, a solemn expression casting over his face.

Holding the knife in one hand, he gently pushed open the door of the garbage chute to find the tiny bloodstain rippling into a crimson ocean in a blink, a suffocating bloody stench rushing over his face.

Fu Shiwu gasped in shock and took a few steps back.

So much blood! And this thick, nauseating stench! It smelt almost exactly the same as that on the 3rd floor!

Were people on this floor dead too?

Fu Shi trembled as he clenched tightly onto the watermelon knife, his hands and feet quickly turning cold.

What kind of murderous demon was he facing? Beside the 3rd floor, even the entire 20th floor was killed by him. What about the other floors? Could they have been emptied earlier?

…… The man was all by himself, how did he do it?

A split second later, Fu Shiwu felt something wasn’t right as every single hair on his body stood on its end. He ducked his head forward, narrowly avoiding the baseball bat that was brutally slamming at his head.

“Ah!!!” Fu Shiwu screamed uncontrollably and staggered forward in two steps, then he quickly turned around.

The man whom he had ridden the elevator together was aiming his sturdy baseball bat at him with a fierce expression.

“What are you doing?!” Fu Shiwu dodged breathlessly and a thought finally flashed: “You and Guan Liangbi are the same gang!”

“Haha! Who is in the same gang with him! That lunatic!” Green T-Shirt had an intriguing look on his face: “No one asks you to be so curious and find something you shouldn’t have found.”

“What? Did you kill these people?” Fu Shiwu couldn’t believe it. “Are five of you the ones that murdered these people?!”

Guan Liangbi was actually used as a scapegoat by these people!

“Exactly!” He grinned and licked his lips: “Why do you want to go outside, Heaven is right here. You can have all the money you need, all the food you want, all the women you lust after. Who would want to leave? “

He clapped the other hand’s palm with the baseball bat and declared in a leisurely, arrogant manner: “Our people have silently occupied several floors, and sooner or later this whole building will kneel down at our feet. If it wasn’t for Guan Liangbi who ruined our good deeds, perhaps you would have died a quiet death too. Be a good boy, let me give you a smooth one.”

If Guan Liangbi was a pro-apocalypse nutjob, then these five men led by Camouflage Vest were complete psychopaths.

But in conclusion, none of them were good people!

Thinking about Wang Ziping and Liao Ke, who likely faced the same unfortunate fates, Fu Shiwu smiled bitterly. How could he still worry about others when he himself was caught in this desperate situation?

The psychopath in front waved his baseball bat and continued to charge at Fu Shiwu.

Although Fu Shiwu was holding a watermelon knife in his hand, in terms of fighting skill, the opponent would probably be 5/10 and he would be sub-zero.

Fu Shiwu was forced to retreat one step to another and his wrist was getting sore, but he still gritted his teeth and didn’t let go.

As Fu Shiwu moved back and further back, seemingly pushed to a hopeless situation, Green T-Shirt couldn’t help but loosen up a bit, at which point Fu Shiwu caught the opportunity to push open the emergency exit and ran down.

There was no one here, but there should still be people on other floors, at least on the 18th floor where he lived!

“Save me!!!” Fu Shiwu screamed as he ran.

Green T-Shirt felt scorned for letting Fu Shiwu escape again but had no time to be angry, so he hurriedly chased after Fu Shiwu.

The other two must have been ambushed from behind by the other gang men. If he couldn’t handle such a frail office man, his brothers would laugh at him.

“Stop! Don’t run!”

“Anybody here? There’s a murderer!” Fu Shiwu stumbled down two floors and rammed into his own 18th floor.

Raising the baseball bat in his hand, Green T-Shirt jumped down from the middle of the stairs and caught up with Fu Shiwu in a blink of an eye.

Fu Shiwu rushed for two levels with all his mind even as his hands and feet were turning numb, determined to fight for his life till the very end.

“You have nowhere to hide!” Green T-Shirt waved his arm and slammed at Fu Shiwu’s head with full force. If he really hit his target, Fu Shiwu would undoubtedly be dead.

At this moment, the door of the apartment closest to the emergency exit opened, then a figure rushed out and kicked the baseball bat in his hand.

“Ouch!!!” It was such a brutal kick that Green T-Shirt immediately gasped in pain, his whole body drenched in sweat. He clutched the wrist that seemed to have broken and threatened the person in a bloodthirsty tone: “Don’t stick your nose into other people’s business! Or I’ll crush that pathetic life of yours!”

“Oh?” The man tilted his head lazily, puffed out a cloud of smoke and looked at him with menacing eyes: “I’d like to see how you’ll crush this pathetic life of mine.”

Fu Shiwu slumped to the ground as his whole body almost became stiff, then he finally reacted and called out the other man’s name: “Tang Xuhai!”

“You scum!” Green T-Shirt gritted his teeth and looked at Tang Xuhai, who couldn’t even bother to look back at him. His other hand let go of the painful wrist and took out a switchblade from behind, then he bolted straight towards Tang Xuhai.

As though in a slow motion, Tang Xuhai leisurely avoided the opponent’s charging body that was utterly exposed with weakness points, then he flicked his shoulder and elbowed the man sharply in the abdomen.

Green T-Shirt almost vomited blood, but still viciously stabbed at Tang Xuhai’s abdomen with his switchblade.

Tang Xuhai clicked his tongue in disdain, raised one knee, slammed down a hammer kick with his long leg and Green T-Shirt’s forehead instantly smashed on the ground with a crisp thud.

A large pool of blood quickly dripped out with his face still down, then his body twitched a few times and he completely stopped moving.

Fu Shiwu was dumbfounded to watch the entire thing taking place in less than half a minute. He swallowed hard and asked in a trembling voice: “Is he dead?”

Tang Xuhai frowned and looked impatient: “He is!”

“You, you killed him…” Fu Shiwu looked at Tang Xuhai, his eyes widened.

Tang Xuhai gave him a look of disgust: “He was going to kill you and you’re here blaming me for killing him.”

Fu Shiwu immediately shook his head: “No, I didn’t mean that.”

This was the first time he saw a killing with his own eyes, which shook him to the core.

Fu Shiwu stood up, his hands trembling but still clutching tightly to the watermelon knife.

“What did you do? Why is this person trying to kill you?” Tang Xuhai gave him a puzzling look.

What could this chicken-hearted brat do to provoke people to chase after him like this?

Obviously Tang Xuhai was also of the type who never left his apartment, so he didn’t know about the happenings in this building any better than Fu Shiwu.

Fu Shiwu quickly recounted what had just happened and asked if he could check out on Wang Ziping and Liao Ke.

“I’m not letting you go alone, I’m coming with you.” Fu Shiwu raised the watermelon knife.

“You?” Tang Xuhai glanced at him sarcastically: “Wake up please, I can actually save some energy without you there.”

Fu Shiwu’s face turned red at Tang Xuhai’s mocking words.

Tang Xuhai walked towards the stairs, then turned around to tell Fu Shiwu in earnest: “People like you can only sit in the office. Don’t get your hopes up on doing righteous things, beating up bad guys or protecting other people, it’s too difficult for you!”

Fu Shiwu’s neck had turned all red and his hands began to tremble, anger overwhelming him.

Even his gratitude for Tang Xuhai saving his life couldn’t help suppress this rage.

Tang Xuhai turned his back and walked into the emergency exit, simply waving a hand at Fu Shiwu: “Just be good and stay at home!”

After Tang Xuhai left, Fu Shiwu stood there for a moment and gasped hard. Although he was asked to go home immediately, how could he be so obedient?

Fu Shiwu kept hovering at the door of the emergency exit, thinking about Tang Xuhai being a retired soldier with an incredibly strong physique. He should be fine, right?

By this point, he started to regret that he hadn’t come along. But he didn’t dare to chase after Tang Xuhai alone, because he was truly frightened by what the man just now had done.

Fu Shiwu consciously felt his courage bubbling inside, but he had not enough strength to do what he hoped for. His mind wanted to resist but his body didn’t listen to it at all. He seriously lacked training!

After a while, a figure appeared outside the exit and Fu Shiwu quickly raised the watermelon knife.

Tang Xuhai saw him shaking and was about to laugh again: “Didn’t I ask you to go home?”

“…” Not daring to say that he was worried about Tang Xuhai, Fu Shiwu just pushed his glasses up: “How are the two of them? Are they alive?

“They’re slightly injured.” Tang Xuhai said with a tinge of praise in his voice: “When I came, they were fighting with two people from the other group. Two of them are dead and two are wounded.”

“Are they so strong?” Fu Shiwu’s eyes lit up.

The corner of Tang Xuhai’s mouth curled up: “The one with the metal stick must have practiced martial arts before and is quite capable, but the one with the crossbow is just wasting his weapon.”

“…”

What a venomous mouth. Not everyone has been trained like you.

“You’d better worry about yourself, you are rolling around like a mudskipper.” Seeing Fu Shiwu’s embarrassed look, Tang Xuhai let out a sigh and nodded with satisfaction, then opened the door of his apartment and walked in.

Fu Shiwu lowered his head to see that his white shirt had become completely covered in bloody flowers, then his whole body began to sore.

  • I don't know why some people are condemning the ml already, but as for me I have been laughing all the way😂 😂

  • I guess this emphasize the ml character more; straightforward like a bull, no nonsense talker but venomous straight male. MC is someone who have will, kindness and strong facade but a softie(typical office worker)...

  • I kind of understand why the ml doesn't want the mc to follow him coz the mc is truthfully weak as of now but the way he said it 😐🙄

Especially when he said "People like you can only sit in the office..........it's to difficult for you!" ⟵(o_O)
I mean you already mock him before this so please stop that venomous mouth of yours.

Ah I really want to punch him and tape that mouth. 😅
So good job mc for holding your anger and rage.

Sometimes you meet those kind of people ¯¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Looking forward for the ml character development, powerful mc and there partnership.(◠‿・)—☆

Thank you Michelle for translating this intriguing novel.❤️☺️

  • How long until the ML stops being a jerk?! Or is this one of the sick ones where the author presents verbal abuse in a romance as if it's totally fine?

    • Hi Alice,
While I appreciate that you check out the novel, I fail to appreciate the accusation you’re giving the author and the character merely through 6 chapters.

I usually am not the type who tries to defend the novels I translate - I’d rather leave it for the readers to form their own judgement after spending enough time reading them. Since you’re not even on this book for a sufficiently substantial amount of chapters, there’s no reason for me to try to influence your mindset. You’ve made it rather clear that this novel is not fitting your taste and quickly rated it as 1 Star on NU because you’re “disgusted by the rampant verbal abuse”, so I suppose dropping it now would be the best course of action for both you, as the reader, and me, as the translator.

After all, life is a journey of encounters. If one book isn’t that good for us for whatever reasons that might be, we simply can choose to move on peacefully.

      Thank you.
