Chapter 48

The giant ox weighing more than one ton had the ground tremble violently whenever it ran, but Xuhai wasn’t afraid in the slightest and even put on a smile: “Come on!”

“Moo!!!” The giant ox heavily stomped its hoofs on the ground, making it feel as though a thousand horses were galloping past them.

Without his duo swords on hand, Tang Xuhai held the combat knife in front of him with the back of his hand facing his face.

After Tang Xuhai flew over his head twice, the giant ox also learnt its lesson. This time, it bolted forward and started tossing its head left and right, even standing upright to try to kick at Tang Xuhai.

Quietly cursing the creature, Tang Xuhai flexibly twisted his muscular waist and dexterously dodged under the giant ox’s hoofs!

The few team members who had gathered next to the modified car were dazzled. Tang Xuhai’s actions were even more magnificent and exaggerated than a blockbuster action flick, easily sending everyone into pure admiration.

“Boom!” The giant ox’s slammed its front hoofs on the ground, and under the impact, the sand rippled out like shock waves.

Tang Xuhai supported himself on the ground with one hand and quickly jumped off the giant ox’s attack range.

His eyes sharply searched for the creature’s weakness. If it weren’t for its head that was as hard as copper, Tang Xuhai could kick its head with his right leg, but doing that now would just result in mutual destruction.

“Bang!!!”

The giant ox screamed and turned around angrily. Only now did Tang Xuhai see that its tail had been cut off!

Tang Xuhai was stunned. This time the giant ox was provoked for good! Fu Shiwu was too reckless!

The sand was rapidly spreading out, but Ma Dong had reached his limit. With his current ability, it was very difficult to turn such a large piece of concrete entirely into sand.

The giant ox raised its head towards the sky and made an earth-shattering roar, its body plunging into the sand. Engulfed by the soft sand, the ox could barely move its massively heavy body.

The giant ox made a few forward strides, desperately struggled to move up and frantically shook its head, trying to threaten the enemy with its horns. Standing at the end of the concrete road, Fu Shiwu, enveloped in his usual cold aura, stared at the special ability animal with icy eyes.

Then he raised his hand and fired.

The bullet flew past the giant ox’s cheek and a blood mark was swiftly formed. Tang Xuhai was astounded, Did he miss?

This was impossible. With Fu Shiwu’s extraordinary marksmanship, there wasn’t any chance for such a blatant mistake to be made.

Or was it deliberate?

Tang Xuhai looked at the giant ox that was fuming with rage in the distance. Fu Shiwu actually wanted to provoke it again!

Why?!

The giant ox was so infuriated that it opened its mouth wide and let out a moo that rumbled across the sky: “Woo moo!!!”

Along with its growl, a deep crack was formed between the giant ox and Fu Shiwu. The sand on both sides rose up, blending in with the broken fragments from the concrete floor.

Everyone’s vision became even blurrier than before. What was Fu Shiwu going to do?! Feeling his heart racing anxiously, Tang Xuhai tightened the knife in his hand, almost ready to risk whatever he could.

Behind the lenses, Fu Shiwu’s eyes narrowed. His brain had formed a static image that accurately pinpointed the position of everyone who was in his field of vision and even the giant ox, while the creature’s ability was spreading consistently in a fast-moving kinetic image.

Casting a sharp glance at the creature, Fu Shiwu smiled confidently. He could see it clearly!

No matter how powerful the giant ox was, it couldn’t defeat a man’s wisdom. In his mind, a brilliantly bright path of attack had emerged amidst the flying sand and gravel.

Now let’s see how you can avoid this! Fu Shiwu calmed down and held up the second gun. Raising his wrists high, he ‘aimed’ at the target in his mind and fired two guns at the same time!

With a bursting sound, six bullets whirled through the air, piercing through the gap between the sand and gravel. The first bullet broke a pebble blocking the way, and the second bullet hit the first bullet, pushing it forward.

“Crunch! Crunch! Crunch!” A series of muffled sounds permeated the air and six bullets perfectly punctured the giant ox’s eyes.

“Woo moo —” The giant ox groaned excruciatingly and crashed onto the ground, its four limbs jerking out of reflex.

In a blink, the floating sand and concrete fragments fell to the ground. Fu Shiwu put down the two guns and softly heaved a sigh of relief.

Huo Enting stared at Fu Shiwu without blinking and raised his eyebrows slightly. He didn’t expect Fu Shiwu’s marksmanship to be this good.

“Ahahaha!” Miao Jia screamed in excitement: “Almighty Fu ge! Fu ge, you really could blast the sky!!!”

Wen Zhaoming and Tang Xuhai looked at Fu Shiwu with a flabbergasted expression. The others might not know, but the two of them were fully aware of what Fu Shiwu had been through until now. Fu Shiwu’s improvement truly had them shaken to the core!

Now Tang Xuhai was sure that this wasn’t something ordinary people could do. Even if Fu Shiwu carried a gift bestowed upon him by the gods, such a feast was impossible!

This definitely was a type of special ability!

Half of the road had been turned into sand, with a huge brown ox lying in the middle, its weight of no less than a ton making a deep pit into the sand.

“Huff — wonderful shots!” Liu Peiqi exclaimed in awe as he pulled open the ox’s eyes.

The eyes of a giant ox were different from those of humans’. They were still in the front but had a certain angle off the face. Fu Shiwu making all three bullets land into the ox’s eye was one thing, but what was even more noteworthy was that one bullet was pushed by the next, connecting them all into a string that brutally drilled through the creature’s brain.

Wang Dan pressed down her shock and a strange light flashed in her eyes. Indeed, one really shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Who would have guessed that this Fu Shiwu, who didn’t seem very strong, had such an amazing ability?

Hollande was immensely excited. With much delight, he said to Fu Shiwu: “It’s stunning! Your marksmanship is the best I’ve ever seen, what a sharpshooter! No! You’re simply a god-level shooter!”

Overwhelmed by his enthusiastic attitude, Fu Shiwu quietly took a step back and said with a nonchalant expression: “Mr. Parril is too nice, I still have a lot to learn.” He rubbed the gun grips in both hands and raised his eyes at Tang Xuhai, continuously sending out distress signals.

As Tang Xuhai slowly recovered from the shock, he finally saw that Fu Shiwu was constantly looking at him. Seeing Fu Shiwu’s body tense up even though the expression on his face was as cold as usual, Tang Xuhai couldn’t help smiling inside. He inserted his knife back into the weapon belt, walked over and wrapped his arm around Fu Shiwu’s neck.

“Good job!” Tang Xuhai praised.

Fu Shiwu pushed his glasses up. Although someone’s arm was dangling over his neck and causing his body to tilt to one side and feel a little uncomfortable, he couldn’t help but smile.

Rather than earning praises from others, he wanted to hear encouragement from his friends, especially Tang Xuhai, the very man who taught him shooting.

Tang Xuhai raised his arm that was wrapping around Fu Shiwu’s shoulders, pressed his hand on Fu Shiwu’s head and calmly turned it towards his direction, so as not to let the others see Fu Shiwu’s silly smile.

A silly smile on such a clever-looking face would be scary enough to destroy the image that Fu Shiwu had built up, which wouldn’t help with leading this team. From now on, it’s enough that I’m the only one who can see it, Tang Xuhai thought to himself.

In front of the others, Fu Shiwu only needed to maintain a mighty and valiant look.

Tang Xuhai didn’t feel that it was anything wrong to count Wen Zhaoming as one of ‘the others’. Who asked him to also be brainwashed by Fu Shiwu’s aura?

“This ox is so big!” Miao Jia bent over and looked at the dead creature on the ground.

“At a glance, it could be estimated that this one weighs more than 1,000 kilograms. Such a big ox can probably enter Guinness records.” Hollande lowered his head and exclaimed.

Being pushed over here, Wen Zhaoming struggled to manoeuvre his wheelchair through the sand. By the time he reached the giant ox, Wen Zhaoming was wearing an extremely stern expression.

“This ox has mutated way too much.” Wen Zhaoming said.

“Uhm.” Miao Jia nodded and said to Wen Zhaoming: “No one on the Internet has seen any creature that mutates so much and has a special ability at the same time.”

“It’s mainly its skull.” Tang Xuhai let go of Fu Shiwu, bent down and drew his duo swords. He used one of them to cut open the giant ox’s head to reveal its skull inside.

As the tip of the sword pierced through the skull, only a dull noise could be heard.

“So hard!” Ma Dong gasped.

“How did it grow such a tough head?” Wu Shan tilted his head, looked up and said with incredulity.

“It’s probably some sort of evolution.” Liu Zhao said uncertainly.

“It should be.” Fu Shiwu walked to Tang Xuhai’s side, took a sword from him and gently poked the giant ox in the head: “Animals actually possess survival wisdom that is beyond human’s imagination.” Fu Shiwu said admiringly: “This ox is evolving in a direction that’ll enable it to survive better. Now that the aliens have a new ability of shooting out their tube, the ox’s skull has grown to be extremely tough and its speed has become incredibly fast. With its Earth-type ability, even an evolved alien might not be its opponent.”

“Uhm, this ox may be stronger than the evolved aliens we encountered before.” Tang Xuhai said affirmatively.

“But how could this be?” Miao Jia said with puzzlement: “I can understand its evolution, but why are animals mutating and developing special abilities that are even more powerful than humans?”

“I think I know why.” Fu Shiwu raised his head and looked at the rest with his sharp eyes: “This is because we absorb the heterogeneous molecules differently.”

Tang Xuhai’s eyes lit up and he asked in a deep voice: “You mean that this ox is like those weeds, which went through some sort of explosive mutation?”

Fu Shiwu nodded: “Uhm, I thought about it before. Now that the Earth is full of heterogeneous molecules, all animals and plants must absorb them from the air. Not to mention, plants also absorb them from the nutrients in the ground and animals directly drink water containing these molecules. They’ve likely reached a critical point of mutation before us. Meanwhile, we humans are drinking purified water and eating food that hasn’t been contaminated by the molecules. The only thing we’re doing similarly to them is breathing in the air. Naturally, we lag behind compared to these mutated animals.”

“So, this ox eats mutated grass, drinks contaminated water and breathes in the same air. The end result is that it becomes even more powerful than humans.” Wen Zhaoming said in conclusion.

“But we humans can’t just drink contaminated water right?” Ma Dong said with doubts: “We may die! Not everyone will have suppressing immunity. The possibility of succumbing to death is there.”

“You’re correct. So at the moment, blindly increasing the intake of heterogeneous molecules is extremely risky.” Wen Zhaoming said: “But, we may not necessarily need to take in more heterogeneous molecules to see an increase in our power.”

Fu Shiwu hugged his arms and fell into some deep thoughts, his eyes behind the glasses fixed on the giant ox lying on the ground.

  • I guess it’s time to eat some Ox meat _(:з」∠)_

And sweeetttt MCs smile is *only* for ML to see o(*////▽////*)q

  • Yes its because only the best of the best animals survive so eventhough their numbers are less they are strong. But, there are plenty of poor countries in this world where people even drink from garbage filled river and scavenged food from a trash heap. I'm sure people from these countries will die en masse but the survivors will be the most powerful.

    • If going by the novel's logic, those people (bless their souls) are likely the world's saviours- which would be cool considering most novels barely talk about other countries.

    • I'm thinking about whether or not ingesting mutated animal meat can count as 'leveling up' material and increase the physique of our crew.
