Chapter 14
Although Fu Shiwu might be slightly rigid, he still had general common sense. At least, he didn’t believe a single word from Tang Xuhai at this very moment: “Even if it’s an inflammation, it’s impossible to cause a fever in such a short time.”
Tang Xuhai stayed quiet and gently breathed out. He didn’t want to tell Fu Shiwu that when he kicked Green T-Shirt with his right leg, it already started to become a little swollen.
Fu Shiwu considered his silence to mean that he was convinced. Just how stubborn does this guy want to be?
“Okay, don’t talk anymore, lie down!” Fu Shiwu angrily held his body and began to push him down.
“There should be a blanket in my car.” Wen Zhaoming said.
“You sit here, do not move.” Facing a weakened Tang Xuhai, Fu Shiwu finally felt strong for once.
Tang Xuhai leaned against the wall feebly, feeling too lazy to talk to him.
Fu Shiwu walked back to the side door by himself, climbed into the car and pulled out a blanket from the luggage compartment. After thinking for a moment, he rummaged through Wen Zhaoming’s car and piled up everything he thought could be useful into the blanket and brought them all out.
Wen Zhaoming’s car was delivered after he got into an accident. He couldn’t drive it now, but he didn’t want to constantly have to sit in someone else’s car, so he decided to keep it. Every time he went to the hospital for check-ups, it was with this car. In winter, the blanket would be put on his lap to keep out the wind. Beside that, his assistant felt the need to add some pillows to the car just to make him more comfortable.
Fu Shiwu took two pillows as well as a neck pillow. He even took out an umbrella and a thermos bottle from the compartment, plus a few packs of wet and dry tissues.
Wen Zhaoming was also a person who needed being taken care of, so Fu Shiwu simply took off the covers from the car seats. If it wasn’t for the seat being unmovable, he would even try to get the whole thing down.
Fu Shiwu noticed the changes in the sky as he looked at it through the car window.
The night sky was still pitch black, but it was dyed with a faint shade of red at the end. Even with naked eyes, he could see that the sky veil was slowly enveloping the entire land. [T/N: ‘Sky veil’ was originally translated as ‘red shroud’. For a smoother sound, this will be retranslated as ‘sky veil’ or ‘red veil’ from now on.]
Fu Shiwu sped up and returned to the bomb shelter with a big bag. As Wen Zhaoming watched Fu Shiwu come back with a bag the size beyond his imagination, his usually blank face was stunned.
“What did you take?” Wen Zhaoming approached Fu Shiwu with the electric wheelchair, and he stretched out his hands to help Fu Shiwu carry the items.
Fu Shiwu wouldn’t impose on him and simply said: “I’ll do it myself, don’t move.”
He took out all the seat covers and threw them on the ground, then put the big bag down. Only then did Wen Zhaoming see that he had actually brought all the covers inside.
“I’ll spread these on the ground so at least it won’t be too cold.” Fu Shiwu used the car seat covers to create a bed for three people.
The covers for seven seats were just right for three grown men.
Fu Shiwu knelt on one of them, carefully placed the pillow at the top, then helped Tang Xuhai, who had become so hot that he seemed slightly gloomy, to walk over.
Tang Xuhai himself was 1.88 meter tall, not to mention all the muscles on his body. Fu Shiwu’s small body of 1.79 meter couldn’t carry him entirely.
Fortunately, Tang Xuhai could still use a little bit of strength, and the two leaned together and stumbled to the bed that Fu Shiwu had prepared.
“Ouch~~~” Fu Shiwu gasped as he put Tang Xuhai on the pillow.
After lying down, Tang Xuhai let out a long sigh of relief. He closed his eyes and said to Fu Shiwu: “I have a first aid kit in my backpack, with anti-inflammatory and fever medicines in it. Take them for me.”
Fu Shiwu nodded, pulled the blanket over him and went to find the backpack.
Under the dim light, Fu Shiwu flipped through Tang Xuhai’s backpack and looked at the contents. His embarrassment from earlier was ‘upgraded’ to a whole new level.
The backpack contained clothes, a first aid kit, a lighter, a metal cup, an alcohol stove, solid alcohol, rations, a set of wireless equipment that should be a communicator, a flashlight plus the multi-purpose shovel just now. He thought about his backpack being loaded with clothes, dried vegetable bars, chocolate, dried noodles, flavoured seasoning packages, then a portable hard drive…
With this comparison, the judgment had been made.
Fu Shiwu sighed, but he could only comfort himself that he had no experience and had a lot to learn…
His heart had been stabbed so many times!
“Have you found it?” Wen Zhaoming gave him a complicated look and couldn’t help asking.
Only then did Fu Shiwu come back to his senses and pulled out the first aid kit. There were lots of things inside, including antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and fever medicines, as well as bandages, tapes, cotton swabs and disinfectant. Perhaps he knew his own condition and Tang Xuhai took extra care to even bring a pain relief spray.
“Found it!” Fu Shiwu took a look at the spray, then he grabbed the fever medicines and ran to Tang Xuhai’s side. He lifted the blanket, pulled up the hem of Tang Xuhai’s pants and sprayed the pain relief.
“Wake up, don’t sleep, take the medicines first.” Fu Shiwu stuffed the medicines into his hand, then opened a jug of water and poured him a full cup.
“Let him drink more water. He sweats too much and will become dehydrated.” Wen Zhaoming said from the side.
“Right, drink plenty of water.” Fu Shiwu just remembered that now, so he took the empty cup from Tang Xuhai’s hand and poured him some more water.
Tang Xuhai raised his upper body, drank the water and handed the cup back to Fu Shiwu: “It’s okay, I’ll be fine after some sleep. There are few people around here, so the aliens shouldn’t be able to find this place. You two be careful, don’t make any noise.”
After saying that, Tang Xuhai lay down and pulled the blanket all over himself. He fell asleep after a short moment.
“He sleeps as soon as he says it.” Fu Shiwu was speechless at his incredible power of falling asleep within mere seconds.
After looking at Tang Xuhai for some time to make sure he had slept deeply, Fu Shiwu dully turned his eyes away.
“Mr. Wen, do you want to drink water?” Fu Shiwu looked at the other person who needed being taken care of.
Wen Zhaoming didn’t speak much because he was trying his best to reduce his presence. As Fu Shiwu had taken the initiative to ask, he replied politely: “It’s Wen Zhaoming, just call my name. Then please help me get some water.”
Fu Shiwu said happily: “Then I’ll call you Zhaoming, and you can call me Shiwu.”
With this special situation that the three of them had gotten caught in, maybe he would be able to break through his ‘Zero friends’ limit?
A jug of water contained about 19 liters. These three jugs would be enough for three people to drink for three days, or ten days if they really rationed it well. Tang Xuhai’s condition shouldn’t be so bad that he can’t recover in ten days, right? So for the time being, water was still sufficient.
Fu Shiwu picked up the cup from Wen Zhaoming’s car and got him a full cup of water. Now he started feeling thirsty after a whole day of not drinking. After Wen Zhaoming gave his thanks and held up the cup to drink, Fu Shiwu thought for a moment and picked up Tang Xuhai’s metal cup, wiped it a bit and poured himself some water.
It was 10 o’clock now, and the three of them hadn’t eaten anything up till this point. Fu Shiwu asked Wen Zhaoming: “Are you hungry?”
Wen Zhaoming never thought that the situation would become so chaotic. He didn’t monitor the military radio like Tang Xuhai, nor did he obtain secret information from others like Wang Ziping. It was simply that an acquaintance called him, asking him to get to the central warehouse in the eastern suburbs before dark. He couldn’t get through his assistant’s phone and had to temporarily turn to Fu Shiwu.
As such, when he came down, he didn’t bring anything other than his mobile phone and car key. In order not to let Tang Xuhai and Fu Shiwu dislike him as a burden, he tried to shrink his presence and didn’t want to raise any demands.
He saw that both Fu Shiwu and Tang Xuhai carried backpacks and even prepared food, but he had neither. Even the three jugs of water belonged to the two of them.
No one knew how many days they would have to stay in this place. He couldn’t directly ask to share their water and food in such a time, when they could go hungry and thirsty any moment now.
Fu Shiwu didn’t think all that much. Now that Wen Zhaoming was travelling with them, it was natural to share the water with him. As for the food, he didn’t touch what was in Tang Xuhai’s backpack, and he himself brought a lot of dried noodles and vegetable bars, which should be sufficient for three people to eat three meals a day for three or four days.
Fu Shiwu took out Tang Xuhai’s alcohol stove, unpacked the solid alcohol under Wen Zhaoming’s guidance, lit it up and directly put Tang Xuhai’s metal water cup on the fire. Then he poured water in and started cooking the noodles.
He held up seasoning packets of various flavours and asked Wen Zhaoming: “Which flavour do you want to eat? There are pickles, curry, braised beef, seafood, pork ribs, mushroom chicken…”
Wen Zhaoming silently looked at the fan-shape arrangement of seasoning packages in front of him and felt that Fu Shiwu was a really interesting man.
“…Tang Xuhai shouldn’t eat too stimulating or greasy food, so let’s go with mushroom chicken.” Wen Zhaoming stroked his chin and said.
“Uhm, you’re right.” Fu Shiwu’s expression immediately turned serious, then he picked out the mushroom chicken and stuffed the rest back into the backpack.
Water must be saved now, so they directly dipped the dried noodles in. After Wen Zhaoming and Fu Shiwu took turns eating, they cooked another cup with slightly thinner taste for Tang Xuhai.
By this time, Tang Xuhai was already very deep in sleep and Fu Shiwu had to spend a great deal of effort trying to wake him up. Tang Xuhai wasn’t in the best spirits and instantly went back to lying down the moment he fisnished eating and drinking all the soup.
After he fell asleep again, Fu Shiwu carefully wiped the metal cup with a paper tissue soaked in water. They would rely on this for cooking in the next few days, so it must be kept in optimal hygiene.
The clock almost hit 12 by the time Fu Shiwu was done with all these small errands, so Fu Shiwu helped Wen Zhaoming get out of the wheelchair and move to his bed.
Only then did he learn that Wen Zhaoming’s disability was more serious than it seemed. As Wen Zhaoming sat down and took off the two prostheses from his legs, Fu Shiwu couldn’t help looking up.
“Is it scary?” Wen Zhaoming smiled bitterly.
“A little bit…” Fu Shiwu said honestly.
Wen Zhaoming sat there looking at his missing calves, his face a grim expression.

Haha I like that our MC is surrounded by disabled people. It’s very rare in fiction
+1
Go make some friends 🥰 , you deserve it🥺
Lol, the picture was supposed to be my profile pic😵
I feel like the mc is such a misunderstood cutie, the bit about finally making friends and how he’s trying so hard to take care of people even though he’s not prepared make him so likeable already
Definitely. He’s really sweet, despite being a little slow, and pretty brave too- rushing about despite the threat of aliens.
Thanks for the chapter!
