Chapter 167: Yan Yun

“I choose neither.”

Jin Cheng gave this answer without much thought. He asked Rong Yi: “Even Yan Yun changed his mind in the end. So no matter what answer you get from me now, it is meaningless. Isn’t it because of this that you didn’t hand in the 2nd Movement?”

After a pause, he added: “Of course, the pretext is that you yourself have no such desire.”

If Rong Yi was pretending to be calm and nonchalant so that he could keep the 2nd Movement and stir some trouble eventually, he naturally wouldn’t hand over the movement. He could just wait for the right time, and as long as he could find a way to get rid of the more powerful 1st Movement, he would win.

Rong Yi: “So I’m explaining that I won’t give the 2nd Movement to you, nor anyone else.”

Jin Cheng shrugged and declined to comment.

Tang Cuo then asked: “Did Lin Yandong really lose an arm because of Miao Qi, and will he never grow another one?”

Rong Yi nodded: “I heard it with my own ears and saw it with my own eyes. A few days have passed, yet his arm hasn’t grown back. I’ve been paying attention to what he’s doing these days, but I haven’t found anything.”

“Then do you know that Lin Yandong has a book? A book of fairy tales.” Tang Cuo’s sharp gaze focused solely on Rong Yi, trying to take in all the changes in his expression.

But to his disappointment, Rong Yi showed absolutely nothing suspicious.

He shook his head: “I have no idea. How did you know?”

Tang Cuo: “I’ve seen it.”

The topic ended.

They couldn’t get any more out of each other, so the conversation naturally came to a close. When Rong Yi left, Tang Cuo pondered over what he had told them and said: “He’s lying.”

Jin Cheng: “What do you mean?”

Maintaining his lazy posture just like before, Tang Cuo lay on the sofa and spoke concisely: “The tone he used when he mentioned Yan Yun seems overly impudent.”

This was human being’s subconscious behaviour, which could never be fully covered up by deliberate pretension. Of course, this didn’t prove that what Rong Yi said was completely wrong. Tang Cuo was more inclined to believe that he simply concealed some parts of the truth.

Immediately, Jin Cheng got in touch with Wen Xiaoming. Wen Xiaoming came over and told him everything that had happened recently. He also said: “When I came back just now, I passed by the Ruby Bar to ask K if he had any latest intel about Lilith and Ji Ning, but there was nothing. But K did tell me a new piece of intel: He said that Mr. Crow has been keeping an eye on Lin Yandong as of late.”

“Mr. Crow.” Jin Cheng chewed on the name and turned to look at Tang Cuo.

Tang Cuo: “The team that tried to kill God.”

If there was a God in this world, then this God was the foundation of Yong Ye City’s existence and also Mr. Crow’s direct commander. Even though Jin Cheng had been at the top of The Blacklist for so long and Mr. Crow had been so angry that he jumped up and down plenty of times, Jin Cheng himself had never received such treatment. Now that Lin Yandong had received it, he probably had triggered an unchallengeable part in Mr. Crow’s heart.

Chances were this had something to do with that so-called God.

And something, or someone, related to God that they had recently discovered was the team that tried to kill God.

Jin Cheng understood what he meant in an instant, and he seemed deep in thought. Wen Xiaoming watched them talking in riddles and felt sorry for himself for a moment. Then, he turned around and headed to the kitchen to keep himself busy.

He was hungry.

As for the two big bosses behind him, it was obvious that neither of them would be willing to cook for him.

After a long pause, Jin Cheng said: “If what Lin Yandong has is really the book that reveals the truth, given the fact that he took the book from the July Rose incident and has been keeping it with him all this time, his intention indeed might be to kill God. Now he’s passing the book to us. Is he trying to take advantage of the conflict between the two sides?

Tang Cuo reminded: “Who told us that Lin Yandong has the book?”

K.

Jin Cheng smirked. This matter was getting more and more interesting. He rolled his eyes, raised both arms to place them on the back of the sofa, turned around and smiled at Tang Cuo: “Since the book comes from the continent of Sicilit, and this dungeon is notably special, do you think we can find traces of God in this serial dungeon?”

Tangcuo: “Maybe.”

If God really existed, Tang Cuo truly wanted to see one in order to satisfy his own not-so-strong curiosity.

After a while, Wen Xiaoming came out with several bowls of fragrant curry rice. As the three were eating, they received one more piece of news about Leng Miao. This was from another intel dealer. Although he wasn’t as all-knowing as K, he was still able to keep his eye on certain people.

Although Wen Xiaoming didn’t seem like a cunning person, he was smart. He had registered Leng Miao, Rong Yi, Lin Yandong and a few others with all the intel dealing groups. In any case, his bank account was abundant.

“It seems that everyone has entered a dungeon.” Jin Cheng tapped the edge of the bowl with his spoon. By the time Rong Yi went to Zone G, only Lin Yandong was still outside.

Thinking of this, he told Wen Xiaoming: “Keep an eye on Lin Yandong and Rong Yi.”

Tang Cuo added: “Don’t tell K that we’re keeping an eye on Rong Yi.”

Wen Xiaoming nodded thoughtfully. Everyone finished their meals, and as they were doing the dishes, Wen Xiaoming had a question: “Do you still have sufficient equipment with you? If you’re running out, I have more here. I’ve brought them all to you, and some potions as well. If I wasn’t so busy recently, I would’ve made an improved version. The effectiveness can be increased by 20%…”

He kept mumbling to himself, from equipment to potions to food, clothing, housing and even transportation, while Tang Cuo and Jin Cheng sat cross-legged on the sofa and listened to him. It was easy to doze off while listening, so when Wen Xiaoming walked out of the kitchen after finishing his work, he saw Tang Cuo falling asleep on Jin Cheng’s shoulder.

Jin Cheng gestured for him to keep quiet, then gently picked up Tang Cuo and carried him back to the room.

Wen Xiaoming watched his back as he stood alone in the living room. Suddenly, he put both hands on his hips and heaved a long sigh at the sky — it was hard to be human, and it was even harder to be single.

But soon, he discovered that compared to being single, being a child who was left behind was way harder.

Everyone had gone to the dungeons. He was the only one guarding the empty city.

Since Tang Cuo had Jin Cheng had successfully got to the sixth round of [Kingdom Hidden In The Moonlight], Rong Yi couldn’t waste any time. After a little bit of preparation, he went to Zone G. He had some wavering thoughts about whether he should head for the Ruby Bar before coming to see Xiao Tong, but very quickly, he left the hesitation behind.

Because Xiao Tong was already here.

“I heard that The Warden had a movement with him.” Rong Yi went straight to the point.

Xiao Tong was at the top of the tall tower scanning through Rong Yi, who was standing on the large open lawn. There were only the two of them here, and even though they were so far apart, they could still hear each other’s voice clearly.

Here, there wouldn’t be any third person to eavesdrop on them.

Xiao Tong admitted readily: “So?”

Rong Yi smiled, feigning pleasantries: “I’d like to ask The Warden to hand that movement to me.”

Xiao Tong raised an eyebrow: “Why?”

Rong Yi: “I know why you’re in a hurry to find a successor.”

Hearing this, Xiao Tong’s eyes narrowed, and the next second, he appeared in front of Rong Yi. Even without any wind, the grasses around him moved away, clearing a path for him.

“Do you know what you are talking about?” Xiao Tong suddenly smiled.

“I know.” Rong Yi’s expression remained still. “K has made a deal with you, but he never told you the source of that information, right?”

“Is it you?”

“It is me.”

After getting the confirmation, Xiao Tong’s expression turned mischievous all of a sudden, and he slapped one palm with the baton in the other hand. He didn’t rush to ask more questions, rather, he went through the relationship between Rong Yi, K and everyone around them in his mind, enjoying the pleasure of unravelling the truth.

He suddenly remembered the matters surrounding Scarlet. It seemed Rong Yi must be involved.

Although Xiao Tong stayed in Zone G all year round and couldn’t go out, Zone G was full of people who were sent to jail from various zones. As such, he could still pull some news about the other zones from them.

Rong Yi was an ordinary man with no distinct characteristics, so he never once attracted Xiao Tong’s attention, but at this moment, Xiao Tong realised that he had seemingly underestimated this person. In other words, there had been a critical error in his judgment.

“Who are you anyway?” he asked.

“You’ve guessed it, haven’t you? Let’s talk about Lin Yandong.” Rong Yi said seriously. “I’ve sensed the aura of Yan Yun, or 甲00109, the captain of the team that tried to kill God, on him. This change happened in Zone G, and I think you know the reason.”

“So what?”

“He’s no match for Yan Yun. I’m afraid that one day, the tables will turn on him. By then, there’s no way to tell whether the person standing in front of you is Lin Yandong or Yan Yun.”

Hearing this, Xiao Tong frowned subconsciously. But then he recalled the day that he sent Lin Yandong away, and his brows became relaxed, even revealing a hint of detachment: “What does this have to do with me?”

Rong Yi was slightly taken aback. He didn’t expect Xiao Tong to react like this. If Xiao Tong really didn’t care about this, it would be challenging. He contemplated for a moment and said: “Lin Yandong has lost one arm.”

Xiao Tong furrowed his brows again: “I said it had nothing to do with me.”

Rong Yi: “Maybe that’s the case. But don’t you want to see the story’s ending before you leave? Even if you draw a clear line with Lin Yandong, the bond that has formed between the two of you in the past few decades can’t just be easily cut off. And if you leave, in the next 10 years or so, you’ll always think back about what happened here and never be able to break free. Will you just wait for the day you can come back? By the time you’re back, this place will still be here, but that person won’t.”

Rong Yi emphasised the last few words with much solemnity.

Xiao Tong’s heart couldn’t help but sink along with his tone. He hated this feeling. The place would still be here, but the person wouldn’t. In the past few decades of his life, hadn’t he experienced enough? If not, why would he want to go to the new world?

That was an explanation he was telling himself.

But Rong Yi’s words, undoubtedly, had foreshadowed a grim future. With a trace of hostility in his eyes, that gaze towards Rong Yi was getting increasingly malicious. As though sensing its owner’s intention, the invisible pressure emanating from Xiao Tong’s baton made Rong Yi’s shoulders drop even lower.

It was forcing him to go down on his knees.

Rong Yi put up strong resistance: “I just want the movement. Since you’ve made up your mind to leave, there’s no point taking it.”

Xiao Tong said nothing and just stared intently at him.

The temperature around them abruptly dropped, and the grasses began to tremble. When The Warden’s baton turned into a walking stick and pierced the ground, the grasses all fell outwards, not daring to get involved at all.

Only Rong Yi still stood straight.

A long moment later, Xiao Tong finally gave in: “Then tell me, what will you give me for the movement?”

Rong Yi quietly breathed a sigh of relief: “I can provide you with Yan Yun’s information. Whether you want to tell it to Lin Yandong or not is up to you.”

Xiao Tong stroked the stick and was silent for a moment. The word “OK” fell into the wind.

Mr. Crow, standing on the top of the tower overlooking everything and unable to hold his impatience, laughed menacingly. He wasn’t as shocked as when he first laid eyes on 00109.

It was just that this group of players — Today you use me as a bargaining chip, tomorrow I use you as a bargaining chip. The fight goes on, and it’s getting really boring. He watched for a while more, and after Xiao Tong sent Rong Yi into the dungeon, another flash of light appeared in front of Xiao Tong.

A human and a crow had returned to the familiar monitoring room.

Mr. Crow stood on the flower stand and tilted his head to look at Xiao Tong: “What kind of riddle were you guys talking about just now? Who is D22422? Isn’t he D22422?”

Xiao Tong glanced at him indifferently, shrugged and turned to make coffee. Mr. Crow chased after him, flapping his wings heavily as he landed on the coffee machine: “You seriously want to hide it from the great Mr. Crow!”

Xiao Tong didn’t care in the slightest: “Since you are so great, you can guess it yourself.”

Mr. Crow was so angry at his insolent attitude. He knew that these players would never change their bad habits. Even after being The Warden for so long, he still loved making Mr. Crow angry.

“Hm.” Fine, I’ll make a guess myself.

Mr. Crow didn’t want to look at Xiao Tong’s face again, for he was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation to scratch his face. He pondered for a moment and concluded that Zheng Yingying still looked more pleasing to the eye.

So, his body glowed with a flash of light and he emerged in a dungeon once again.
