Chapter 87

Fu Shiwu said: “I indeed thought that someone might have leaked our information, it turns out to be Ma Dong?”

Wen Zhaoming nodded: “It was only Liu Zhao and Wu Shan who were injured when they put up resistance, so where did Ma Dong’s injuries come from? Someone must have tortured him to get the answers.”

Miao Jia was stunned: “So it’s him? Damn!”

A flash of light gleamed in Tang Xuhai’s eyes, then the anger that was boiling slowly faded away: “After all, he’s just an ordinary man who hasn’t been through any training. It can’t be helped that he’s unable to put up with the torture.” Tang Xuhai sighed helplessly.

Ma Dong was just an ordinary worker with no iron will. Besides, they were merely a temporary team. Ma Dong likely also thought they didn’t have any secrets to keep either, for after all, it wasn’t like they were acting in a war movie.

Wen Zhaoming heaved a long sigh: “Yes, so if he doesn’t want to stay, what can we say? I also should blame myself for thinking too simply at that time. I didn’t take into account people’s fears, just thinking that I could slowly guide them even when they have no ambitions. “

Back then, Wen Zhaoming also had his own headaches. They were but a few unknown men in the central warehouse, not some big shots with extraordinary backgrounds and many subordinates on hand. Considering that they weren’t even an ideal choice to partner with in the first place, it was already challenging enough to convince a handful of people to hop on the journey together.

Wen Zhaoming said coldly: “In any case, your idea of forming a corps has scared them away and saved me quite some effort. These unstable factors may only bring hidden dangers if they remain among us.”

Liu Peiqi hesitated a little before voicing his opinion: “I think they shouldn’t be so fearful, that’s very short-sighted. Now is the time that the social classes are about to be divided again. If you don’t take some risks and fight for your own, you’ll struggle at the bottom for the rest of your life.”

By now, Liu Peiqi really loved his wood-type ability. What he wanted the most was to be able to follow the strongest people to explore everywhere, find a powerful special ability plant seed as soon as possible, and grow into a truly powerful wood-type ability user. That was why he refused to leave.

Wen Zhaoming expressed agreement: “That’s right, the more your ability is put through battles and dangerous situations, the more progress it’ll make.”

Miao Jia said: “Let’s go to register our corps!”

Tang Xuhai turned around and pressed the ‘General Business’ option.

There were more than a dozen people waiting in line, so the group wandered around while waiting for their number to be called. A short moment later, with his excellent ability to gather intelligence, Miao Jia spotted something useful

“Hai ge! Fu ge!” Miao Jia exclaimed with exhilaration: “I found Shi Zheng’s wanted order!!!”

“Huh?” Tang Xuhai went over to look immediately.

It turned out that although Pei City couldn’t spare any effort to eradicate Shi Zheng’s tyranny in Ping Nan town, they gave incentives to encourage the corps and guilds established by the common folks to destroy Shi Zheng’s Wild Wolf Gang.

Because of the brutal nature of Shi Zheng’s men, the teams that travelled between Pei City and other small survivor bases were all killed by them, causing quite some severe impacts. Pei City had long offered a reward for him, but Shi Zheng had too many special ability users under his wings, which had even the largest corps and guilds in Pei City daunted. No one dared to face his force heads-on.

The wanted order on Shi Zheng and Wild Wolf Gang members didn’t care whether they were dead or alive, and the amount of Civil Points one would receive for completing that mission was rather impressive.

Wen Zhaoming’s mouth opened slightly, totally not expecting things to happen just at the rightest time.

Miao Jia shook Tang Xuhai with eagerness: “Let’s register our corps, then we’ll claim this mission!”

Shi Zheng was originally killed by them and the Wild Wolf Gang was destroyed under their hands. No one would be a better candidate to take this credit than them.

Everyone in the team felt tremendously thrilled with the unforeseen wealth. When Tang Xuhai went to register for their corps, he handed in the application form without even thinking twice.

After receiving the receipt of their application, Fu Shiwu turned to ask: “By the way, what’s the name of our corps?”

Tang Xuhai glanced at him without saying a word. Wen Zhaoming only remembered this detail by now, and his face already exuded a ‘this seems bad’ expression.

He said to Tang Xuhai: “What name did you get? It shouldn’t be too painful to the ear?”

“Dragonbone Corps.” Tang Xuhai said grumpily.

“Dragonbone Corps?!” The others said in unison.

This guy is really lazy to think, okay. Isn’t Dragonbone the name of his pair of swords too?!

“Not too bad, at least it doesn’t sound unpleasant.” Miao Jia felt lucky.

Tang Xuhai carefully stuffed the receipt into Wen Zhaoming’s hands and gave him specific instructions on the follow-up matters. There were still a lot of forms to fill out, which were exactly the sort of troublesome things he didn’t want to do. With absolutely zero shame, Tang Xuhai bossed his wounded companion around to take care of this. Hey, isn’t it because Lao Wen is the only one among them with an ID card now?!

In any case, Wen Zhaoming wholeheartedly didn’t want to leave the matter to anyone else, for if he was to let Fu Shiwu or Tang Xuhai handle it, his mind would never be at ease.

When Wen Zhaoming came back, without waiting for Tang Xuhai to ask anything, Wen Zhaoming said with glee all over his face: “Let’s go! There’s a good deal to attend to!”

The other people followed him in confusion. Looking at this disabled person who was walking on his prostheses, it would be impossible to believe that merely two days ago, he was still staggering with pain, yet now, he was walking in front with a speed that looked as though he was flying, drawing such a huge gap between them.

“What’s the matter?” Worried that his companion would fall, Fu Shiwu followed Wen Zhaoming step by step.

“A medical institution is now purchasing medical equipment, so we could nicely sell our equipment to them at a high price. On the side, we might just sell all the medicines as a package too!” Wen Zhaoming explained quickly.

The moment they reached the cars, before the people who were on watch could even ask about what had happened, Wen Zhaoming pulled the car door and climbed inside, sitting solemnly in his seat and urging them to leave.

“Seriously so urgent?” Tang Xuhai helplessly got into the driver’s seat.

Wen Zhaoming’s ‘businessman’ switch had been turned on; his mind right now could only think about grabbing this opportunity when people were in dire need to make a huge profit.

Fu Shiwu asked if Zhen Zi knew how to drive, but Zhen Zi could only regretfully say no.

In that case, only Miao Jia was left to be assigned the driver’s job, so now, Tang Xuhai drove the modified car, while Hollande, Wang Dan, Miao Jia, and Liu Peiqi each drove a separate vehicle.

When Ma Dong and the others left, they came back only to take their belongings. At such a time like this, people who couldn’t get their hands on gasoline couldn’t afford to drive a car anyway. Meanwhile, Huo Enting didn’t have to worry about any car as long as he found his uncle. So none of them mentioned anything about cars and simply took their leave.

Even if the team had no need for any of these vehicles, they couldn’t just throw them here. At the very least, they could be exchanged for Contribution Points.

When they reached the institution, everyone else could only give Wen Zhaoming the spotlight while they themselves remained completely silent, just watching Wen Zhaoming slowly sell all these things at the price he deemed best with a very steady expression that was neither anxious nor urgent.

That medical institution originally only wanted medical equipment, but in the end, Wen Zhaoming managed to talk them into buying not only the western medicines, but also all the valuable Chinese medicinal materials!

“What a scary profiteer…” Miao Jia shivered.

“Why is he a profiteer?” Fu Shiwu seriously defended his companion: “Zhaoming is right. Now these Chinese herbal medicines are getting harder and harder to find. They may be out of production in the future. The hospital may not have a need for them now, but when they want to use them in the future, there won’t be any place to search anymore.”

Tang Xuhai shook his head, patted Fu Shiwu’s shoulder and said pityingly: “In the future, when you go shopping, don’t go by yourself. You’ll definitely be talked into buying things you never use.”

Fu Shiwu cast him an aggrieved look. But, well, I did get talked into buying a lot of useless things before…

Miao Jia also agreed with that statement. Fu ge must’ve been fooled big time before, or at least, suffered one or two cheatings.

Zhen Zi couldn’t help saying: “Fu ge, I think, looking at the current state of mutated animals and plants as well as those with special abilities, the efficiency of these herbal Chinese medicines will only become stronger with time, while the weaker ones will indeed be out of production at one point. For those, there’s only some collection value, and to be honest, they’re not practical at all.”

So it shouldn’t be said that the medical institution bought useless things, rather, it was more like they bought about-to-be-useless things.

Only then did Fu Shiwu understand. After a moment of hesitation, he asked: “Is there any other hospital in Pei City? It’s not just this one, right?”

“There should be more than just this one, why?”

“We’ll definitely be blacklisted.”

But Wen Zhaoming was truly a daredevil. He managed to win a phenomenal deal after such a long time, which made him feel like he had been reborn. He couldn’t wait to move on to yet another deal.

“Don’t waste time here, let’s go, head to the East Development Zone, let’s buy a house!”

Thanks to the deal with the medical institution, the ‘winnings’…  ahem, the Contribution Points they earned were really not small at all.

As they had expected, medical equipment and medicines were now greatly treasured.

Coupled with the reward gotten from Shi Zheng’s wanted order, they now had quite ample funds.

After spending all the Contribution Points and one-fifth of the Civil Points, they bought a house in the villa district of the East Development Zone. It was Villa No.7 in Xishan Garden.

There were originally mansions here, but later, they were demolished and rebuilt into villa structures to help accommodate more people.

The original mansions all had their own large gardens. Although the space was large, they were all sort of wasted.

The new style after demolition carried a strong Chinese vibe. A small courtyard lay in the middle, with a gate and wrought iron fences in the front, while the main building was surrounded on both its left and right sides with smaller structures.

Villa No.7 was a three-story building with a total of more than 20 rooms, each with its own bathroom facilities, which could be described to be rather luxurious.

“Wow! This is really not bad!” Miao Jia was extremely awed.

Zhen Zi walked back and forth many times. The main building’s first floor housed a huge living room that could accommodate a lot of people. Moreover, she discovered a basement underneath, which could be used as a warehouse.

“Really worth it.” Zhen Zi nodded in praise.

They got a place to stay as soon as they came to Pei City. This truly was a great start.

The author has something to say:

With this Pei City arc, our characters have reached the main city. Many activities and missions are awaiting them.

  • Hollande, you should learn something from your cousin Wen Zhaoming!

    (/j)

(It's a 'your parents always compare you to that one cousin' type joke, where Mr. Wen and Hollande are both businessmen but Mr. Wen is the only one making money)

  • Thank you for the translation and for sharing this book with others! It was a nice book; binged it in a day and it didn't even take me a whole day to finish! A couple of hours I guess.

Finally caught up with this and I'll reread the trial of life, thank you!

    • Hi JustAki,

Thank you so much for your support too. Some of you have reading speed that really amazes me 〣( ºΔº )〣 I'm so glad to know that both this novel and Trial Game of Life have been a good experience for you. Happy re-reading, I guess xD

Hope to see you around in the future! <3

  • Which raw chapter does this translated version fall between? I went to mtl it and noticed the raws and the translated chapters doesn't line up. Can I trouble you write the real raw chapters it is located?

    • Hi Anon,
Indeed like passerby said below, this chapter is equivalent to end of Chapter 59.

Allow me to also clarify that the chapter number has been adjusted for the EN translation, since many of the original Chinese chapters are very long (>6k words). Chapters with >6k words are split into 2 in the English version.

Hope this helps. And also, thank you for checking out this novel ^_^

      • Why not label it as part 1 and part 2 instead when splitting into 2 for longer word count chapters? As this would lessen the confusing chapter numbering.

        • Hi Reader,
Firstly, thanks for checking out this novel, I believe this is the first time I've seen your comment? ^_^

Regarding the chapter numbering, I totally understand it might get rather confusing. At first, I did consider the splitting method (which I actually use on my two other translations when one or two chapters get too long). However, for The Invasion Day, more than 2/3 of the novels are made up of long chapters (>6k words), which essentially means the majority of the Table of Contents will be filled with Part 1 and Part 2. As far as I observe on certain reviews, continuously listing split chapters on NovelUpdates may give the wrong impression to new readers. Besides, I strive to give my translation the look and feel of a normal book, so I decided to adjust the chapter flow (I really put proper thoughts into where exactly I should cut a chapter to make it feel most natural).

I did try to list the chapter count as 2 separate amounts: '143c in Chinese' and '233c in English translation' on NU, but following my 3 continuous attempts to get this detail displayed, someone always deleted the line '233c in English translation'. In the end, I could only resort to informing readers of this mismatch in chapter number on Chapter 1 - Translator's Note and the Novel Introduction page. I believe I've done all I could to lessen this confusion. If anyone still has questions, of course I'm always here to reply to their comments ^^

That was a lengthy explanation, I'm sorry if this has caused much confusion/trouble for you. Thank you again for reading my translation! I hope to continue receiving your support in the future ♥

          • i see, thanks. i guess i will just wait until you finish translating or mtl it all the way as stopping and continuing based on the translated chapters is jarring due to needing to search. also, i believe that listing many split chapters should be fine cause ultimately when people wants to mtl, it makes it easier for them to search. (foxaholic does this a lot for certain novels that have long chapters.)

  • Hi Michelle!

Thank you so much for translating! I binged read Invasion Day and Saving Unpermitted the last two weeks! I love the stories you have chosen to translate so thank you!! I'm very excited to read the next arc 💕

Have you read Mist? I feel like it might be a novel you might enjoy! It is currently being translated by KK Translates.

    • Hi Bam!

First off, here's a big thank you for checking out the two novels. I'm glad you like them ♡

As a matter of fact, I checked out Mist a long time ago, way before it got translated xD It's indeed a good novel, and what's more, reading it requires quite a bit of brain cells (my favourite kind of book!). That said, thank you for the recommendation still! ^_^

Hope to continue receiving your support in the future ଘ(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭* ̀ˋ

  • So far it's a good novel. Slow pace but detailed and little plot hole. MC(s) not thirsty for power or advancement.
Thanks for your translation Michelle :)

    • Hi Stack Chapters Reader (lol I love your username),

Thanks for checking this novel out too, glad to you find it alright ଘ(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭* ̀ˋ I agree this is indeed rather slow-paced haha (took them 87 chapters to get to the main city? o.O)

Hope to continue receiving your support <3
