After completing the feast of snakehead fish, Tang Xuhai and a few others began to sort out the equipment and medicines from the infirmary, and they also found a small truck used for transportation.
The resort was rather isolated from town, so all the daily necessities and foods needed to be purchased from afar and a cargo truck was thus prepared here.
“We should be able to put all the stuff here?” With some uncertainty, Fu Shiwu examined the small truck with its cargo wide open.
“Let’s place large items on this truck first. If the small items can’t fit in, we can put them on our car roof.” Tang Xuhai said after pondering for a moment.
There were already cargo racks on the roof of their modified car. Tang Xuhai only had to make some modifications with his power and it should be enough to carry these things.
With the infirmary in the resort so well equipped, the team took all the valuable equipment, leaving behind only those not-so-awe-inspiring ones — including the delivery bed that had Tang Xuhai shocked for a second…
The infirmary was also remarkably modern, so much so that some of the equipment was very recently purchased and more than 80% new.
Several large pieces of dental treatment machines, full-colour ultrasound diagnostic equipment, monitors, electrocardiographs, microwave diathermy devices, et cetera, were meticulously carried into the truck. For other compact devices such as blood test machines and infrared lamps, they nicely fit onto the modified car’s roof without Tang Xuhai needing to make any further adjustment.
But for safety reasons, they still brought a lot of curtains and sheets to stuff the four corners; because the devices weren’t protected by any packaging or styrofoam box, so even if the car bumped only a little, they might get scratched.
The remaining task was to sort out the medicinal materials and traditional Chinese medicines. The team grabbed those that were rarer, while the more common types were left behind. As for the Western medicines, those that required low-temperature preservation had gone sour, for the freezer where they were kept in no longer had any power due to the lack of human care. Eventually, they could only take away some tablets.
These items might look inconspicuous, but combined together, several large boxes were needed to pack them up. In the end, the small resort truck they found earlier became the new storage for these medicines.
“We should be almost done.” Fu Shiwu wiped the sweat off his forehead, straightened up and heaved a sigh of relief.
Wen Zhaoming stood beside him, silently calculating the value of these things. With the critical scarcity of resources during this apocalypse, the value of medical equipment and medicines had certainly increased tremendously. The survivor base at the military district was definitely short of resources, so they should have no problem exchanging these for a place to build their own future.
Fu Shiwu’s and Tang Xuhai’s character wasn’t fit to do this kind of bargaining, so the matter had to be handed over to him. And Wen Zhaoming had, in fact, begun to come up with a prudent plan on how to thoroughly use these things to gain the biggest benefit for their team.
By the time everything was done, it was almost evening.
At this moment, someone from Ping Nan suddenly ran over.
Tang Xuhai had seen this man yesterday. He was a wind-type special ability user, Shao Le.
Running over and grasping hard for breath, the man said: “It doesn’t seem good, you go and have a look. A gigantic bird is flying near Shuijing Lake!”
Tang Xuhai said calmly: “Talk slowly, don’t be nervous. Has anyone suffered an injury? Does the bird have a tendency to attack people?”
Shao Le took a few breaths, calmed down and responded: “That’s not the case. Just now suddenly a big bird flew over. Its body is more than one meter long, and each wingspread was nearly two meters. I see that the nose and mouth are very eagle-like. Since Mr. Tang and Mr. Fu caught a big fish, we didn’t touch and rabbits caught earlier and just left them there, then the eagle suddenly flew over, snatching several rabbits.”
“Oh?” Tang Xuhai raised his eyebrows.
Wen Zhaoming stood aside and thought for a moment: “Is the eagle still there now?”
Shao Le said: “It flew away just now, but flew back after a while. It has been hovering in the sky.”
“Let’s go have a look.” Tang Xuhai took the initiative to lead the way.
The resort was some distance away from Shuijing Lake, but by the time they walked over, the eagle was still lingering in the sky.
Many people were flabbergasted by the build of this eagle.
In the legend, there might be those huge birds that could carry people, but no such creature was known to exist in reality. Or, they might have existed in the past but had now gone extinct.
Tang Xuhai furrowed his brows and whispered something to Miao Jia. Miao Jia nodded solemnly and ran away.
After a while, Miao Jia came back with his laptop and handed Tang Xuhai a pair of binoculars.
These binoculars were found by Tang Xuhai inside Shi Zheng’s luxurious library, which they later stuffed into their modified car.
Tang Xuhai took a look, then handed the binoculars to others to take turns watching.
“This eagle doesn’t look like a domestic species.” Tang Xuhai said pensively.
Fu Shiwu nodded in agreement: “Uhm, its features are distinct. If it’s a domestic species, it should’ve been shown on the Science Discovery channel. At least I haven’t seen it in the programmes I watched.”
Hearing this, Tang Xuhai’s attention was piqued. This brat actually likes watching Science Discovery documentaries?
But he himself also loved watching military channels, and he even sometimes watched movies and TV shows. The ones he didn’t fancy were noisy variety shows.
Miao Jia’s mind moved quickly. This place was only 2 hours away from the provincial capital of H Province by the highway, or a day away by walking. If there were such a huge bird in a place so close to civilisation, perhaps the Focus Forum should have some information.
Sure enough, Miao Jia quickly found some news regarding this bird in the distribution map established by the army on the Forum.
“Hai ge! This is a special ability bird, the species is Philippine Eagle!” Miao Jia called out: “This eagle is very powerful, an electric-type!”
“A Philippine Eagle?” Tang Xuhai and Fu Shiwu looked at each other.
Wen Zhaoming pinched his glabella as he said: “Why is there a Philippine Eagle here?”
Miao Jia smiled helplessly: “This Philippine Eagle is an endangered species. It is super precious, like the Giant Pandas of our country. It’s an offspring raised in Pei City Zoo after the parents are brought from Beijing Zoo…”
At that time, the two countries had a friendly exchange. As an animal with the same ‘Endangered’ status as the Giant Panda of Huaxia, a Philippine Eagle was gifted to Beijing Zoo.
Later, after careful care and breeding, the number of this eagle species slowly grew, and it was introduced back to zoos in other big cities.
In Pei City Zoo, the cage this large bird inhabited even housed a small hill, but no matter how luxurious and comfortable its living condition was, it remained a bird in a cage. When no one came to feed it, the awakened giant eagle broke through the bars and flew out.
“Philippine Eagle…” Tang Xuhai walked over and looked down at the pictures on the laptop held by Miao Jia.
This was also called the monkey-eating eagle. With its exceptionally large body, the animal was fierce by nature and even caught monkeys for food. There was a crown of spear-shaped or willow-shaped feathers around its face, which looked like feather decorations worn on the heads of Indian tribe chiefs. Its face was jet-black, complemented with a similarly-coloured hooked beak that was short and flat yet massive in size. The eagle’s back and wings were dark brown, but its chest and abdomen were white. Its legs carried incredible strength, and its claws were very strong.
“It seems that after escaping from the zoo, it regards this place as its territory.” Fu Shiwu said.
“The largest eagle in the world possesses an electric-type ability…” Wen Zhaoming smiled bitterly.
This wasn’t the same as the corn king or the special ability giant ox. Fu Shiwu’s team might be confident when fighting on the ground, but the opponent this time had an innate advantage of being able to fight in mid-air, not to mention, its ability attribute was one that they had never faced.
After thinking for a while, Fu Shiwu said: “Let’s not blow this out of proportion, after all, we still have many ordinary people here.”
Tang Xuhai nodded, expressing that he understood at once, and immediately he ordered the others to stay away from the heap of rabbits. He set up a cordon nearby and put some people on guard to make sure that no one would pass this line.
The Philippine Eagle now had an exclusive name ‘Thunder Eagle’ in the Focus Forum, with several posts about it scattering around. This giant eagle carried a very strong sense of territory, and all animals that moved within its territory were regarded as food.
But in the first place, this giant eagle never attacked humans. Only when humans threatened its living environment and snatched its prey that conflict took place.
Although Thunder Eagle wasn’t easy to provoke, the aliens were also within its attack range. Thunder Eagle had a grand size and its brain was also on the alien’s menu, which naturally made the two sides hostile with each other.
However, the aliens saw it but couldn’t reach it, while the giant eagle itself wouldn’t attack another aggressive species if there was no good reason to.
Now that the bird kept hovering in the sky, it seemed to be the rabbits on the ground that caught its attention.
Tang Xuhai made people pull a certain distance away, but all of sudden, the Thunder Eagle accelerated and plunged down like a stormy cannonball. When the bird was about to hit the ground, it swiftly changed direction and grasped several rabbits with its claws, then it flapped its wings and returned to the sky.
“Okay, if there’s no valid reason, stay away, and do not try to provoke a fight with this giant eagle.” Tang Xuhai commanded.
The people of Ping Nan were very curious about the special ability giant eagle, but after Shi Zheng’s oppression, they no longer had the guts to make such reckless moves. Besides, everyone knew their life was important, so they earnestly stayed in their place and passed through the night peacefully.
The next morning, the whole pile of rabbits was completely gone.
Liu Peiqi was so very sad, for he wanted to grill some to eat on the road.
One after another, the teams set off, and the enormous group of more than 10,000 men left the resort that had helped their spirits to calm down.
After a day’s journey, everyone finally arrived at the survivor base of Pei City, the capital of H Province.
Fu Shiwu was almost dumbstruck, while everyone else couldn’t hold back the shock when they laid eyes on the colossal wall that was gradually emerging.

I was thinking the Philippine eagle would become their pet with how much 'screen time' the author gave it 🤣
It's really cute how the eagle kinda just minds it's own business.
Random question; Is the Indian tribe mentioned in this chapter an actual Indian tribe (considering Indians are in fact not tribal- excluding the indigenous individuals of that land) or was the author discussing indigenous individuals- such as the indigenous population of Canada who are known to wear ceremonial feather hats/crowns?
I have no idea why I fixated on such a small detail but now the urge to know is eating me up alive from the inside.
I lived here in in Philippines for almost 22 years and haven't seen Philippine Eagle for it is indeed endangered and I only learned it from books and ofc google lol
It's sad that Philippine Eagle population is now slowly decreasing more because of hunters... Causing for uncontrolled growing population of local monkeys which is its main prey
Lmao that exchange definitely didn't happen due to the eagle's nature and transport may stress it. Also Panda is impossible to live here in the Philippines due to the climate 🤣
I thought the eagle was going to follow them for more rabbits :o So much description makes me think it would join the party hehe~
Went back here to comment about how surprised i am of the mention of Philippine Eagle knowing the relationship between the two countries
Seems like I wasn't the only one to think of this lmao. I'm from the Philippines and it was a huge surprise seeing the word "Philippine Eagle" considering how the situation between China and my country is going through.
It was nice for the author to include it though; What a vivid description about the eagle. Must have searched a lot.
Kudos to the translator!
Hi Range, thank you for checking out this novel, I'm glad it managed to become one of your favourites ଘ(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭* ̀ˋ
On the Philippine Eagle, well let me confess: while I translated this chapter, I actually went to google whether such an exchange did happen. I couldn't find any specific information about an exchange of Philippine Eagle & Giant Panda, so chances are this detail is fictional. But it real life, China does gift Panda to other countries as a gesture of friendship/diplomacy ^^
I finally caught up with this after a day of binging. I was actually reading months ago and stopped at chapter 60 and oh boy i forgot the title of this novel. Thank goodness i was able to find it again. Aside from Card Room, The Invasion Day is another of my favorite danmei. Thanks for translating this gem ^^
OMG!!! Thunder Eagle - Thanks for the update
thanks for the chappie
