Chapter 72

The arrival of his teammates allowed Fu Shiwu to let out a sigh of relief. At least the girl’s ability could deal some damage to Shi Zheng, so that Tang Xuhai wouldn’t have to struggle so hard.

The girl simply ignored the huge tree, as her undisputed target was obviously Shi Zheng. After a loud, terrifying laughter escaped her throat, she snapped at him with a stern voice: “Shi Zheng, your life will end today!”

Shi Zheng was almost getting addicted to playing around with Tang Xuhai, yet the moment he saw the girl, his expression immediately changed.

The battle between him and Tang Xuhai was like a violent close combat, where neither of them could truly knock out the other. But this girl was a long-range fighter, which was very tricky to deal with.

Being an ability user, Shi Zheng was resistant to sound waves; at most, those waves could only slow him down a bit. But that might be enough for Tang Xuhai to deal him a lethal blow!

“Do not move!!!” Shi Zheng shouted, holding the sturdy tree trunk in one hand and pulling out an object that looked like an old-style cell phone from his pocket with the other hand: “If you don’t want to die, you’d better stop now.”

Seeing him pretending to press on it to threaten the team, Fu Shiwu’s eyes immediately turned bloodshot. He said, each word laced with loathing: “Shi Zheng, who are you trying to threaten? My friend has been killed by you. Do you think I’ll still fall for this trick again?!”

Shi Zheng said grimly: “This is your best course for the day, because this bomb is put inside the civilian camp!”

What? Civilian camp? What is that place?

Almost everyone had this question, except for the young girl.

She looked at Shi Zheng in disbelief: “You’re a lunatic! What good is it for you to blow them up? You used them as bait, they endured it, then you humiliated them, they endured it too! They only want to stay alive! How could you be so sinister, planting a bomb in that place?!”

“Of course it’s because that place is a good spot.” Shi Zheng was surprised: “Do you think I would anyhow waste my precious gunpowder on such a useless bunch of humans?”

He chuckled, apparently thinking that this was the obvious truth. If anyone didn’t know that, they would be fools.

The other people could only agree with the girl. This bastard has gone nuts.

Shi Zheng casually remained unaware of the weird gazes that the others were shooting at him. He rubbed his cheek with the hand holding the remote control while speaking in a zealous, almost-bewitching tone: “Of course the bomb was planted to deal with the evolved aliens. Where can you find a lot of people in this prison?” Shi Zheng let out an eerie laugh: “Of course it’s the civilian camp.”

Then he said with an unamused expression: “It’s all to keep my precious subordinates alive. When the right moment comes, the main force will retreat and the evolved aliens won’t hesitate to rush towards the civilian camp for a big, big meal. There are so many people there, enough for each of them to fill their stomachs. I just have to move my finger ever so lightly, and all of them will be as good as dead. Conveniently, I would also be able to watch a magnificent display of fireworks…”

Speaking of the fireworks caused by the explosion, Shi Zheng became so excited that it made people feel sick. He continued in a pretentiously innocent, sweet tone: “I’ve always loved watching fireworks since I was a kid. I think these flames look the most mesmerising when they’re burning humans.”

What a sick man!

Tang Xuhai’s face went pale. He never thought that Shi Zheng could be that skilled at bomb-making.

The young girl couldn’t hold herself back and take one step forward.

Shi Zheng’s eyes reacted sharply and he gave the girl a serious warning: “Don’t you dare think you can stop me! You still have to open your mouth to make a sound. You’re not allowed to say a word starting now. As soon as you open your mouth, I will detonate the bomb!”

“What? “The girl looked at him in horror.

“Oh~ oh~” Shi Zheng shook his head regretfully, pressing his finger on the buttons.

“Boom!!!” An earth-shattering explosion came. A distance away from the building, at a square that used to be reserved for sheltering but now housed more than 10,000 survivors, a corner of the square became shrouded in crimson flames! A huge commotion immediately rose among the civilians over there.

Completely shaken to the core, the girl covered her mouth in fear.

“This time, it’s just a warning.” Shi Zheng said coldly.

“Hiss!!!” A shriek came, causing everyone’s expression to change at once.

Shi Zheng pointed the remote control at the crowd intimidatingly: “Your goal is to escape from here, haven’t you achieved it now? I may stop paying so much attention to you now. After I let you go, know your place, you’d better not get involved any further.”

Shi Zheng tossed down the tree trunk, took a step back and said: “You should be thankful that I still have to deal with the aliens, else you won’t get out of this alive so easily.”

The force of this explosion was far greater than that of the bomb mounted on Wen Zhaoming, so much so that even the ground on their side was shaking from the impact. The leaves on the trees fluttered and fell down, and a leaf floated through the large hole that had blasted on the wall of the second floor. At the same time, the gravel from the second floor’s ruins shook slightly and slipped down.

Shi Zheng simply disappeared from everyone’s eyes. Fu Shiwu clenched both his hands as he looked at the direction he was leaving.

Ma Dong gave them a reminder: “Since it has come to this, let’s quickly leave.”

Fu Shiwu was dazed for a moment, hesitantly gazing at Tang Xuhai.

Huo Enting’s face was still very pale. His head was hurting because he had overused his powers, and his feet were wobbling feebly. He staggered over and said: “Isn’t our goal to get them out? Our job is done here, let’s leave.”

Could they just leave like that?

“No!” The girl cried out fiercely: “Shi Zheng said he’ll use more than 10,000 people as bait, and he means it! I can’t let him kill more people!”

Indeed, we can’t let him kill more people. Tang Xuhai’s eyes became as sharp as knives.

“We stay!” Tang Xuhai said.

“Stay?” The others said almost in unison.

“Yes! As long as the evolved aliens can’t enter, Shi Zheng won’t detonate those bombs!” Tang Xuhai said with conviction: “Besides, Shi Zheng hates us to the core. The moment he defeats the evolved alien, he’ll chase us down with all his might. We won’t be able to escape very far!”

Hearing his words, Wu Shan and the others, who were very reluctant at the idea, finally closed their mouths.

“So, we must take this opportunity to take him down, and avenge Zhaoming!” Fu Shiwu said, his tone full of resentment.

“Uhm!” Tang Xuhai nodded heavily to show his agreement.

The girl looked at them with immense exhilaration: “Yes! Let’s get on it!”

Fu Shiwu’s mind moved swiftly: “I can quickly locate the bombs. I’ll try my best to make sure that even if Shi Zheng really detonates them, not many people will be hurt.”

The girl’s eyes lit up: “If this is the case, we can lead those people to a place where there are no bombs, so that he has no hostages to pressurise us!”

Miao Jia scrutinised the girl a bit. Only a few hours in and she’s already going “we” with them? He still hadn’t learnt her name, yet they were going through life and death together. How incredible.

But now wasn’t a good time to ask that. Let’s wait until everything settles down, Miao Jia thought optimistically.

“Good! Then let’s do it!” Fu Shiwu nodded, then firmly turned and walked toward the direction where the bomb smoke was still fuming.

Tang Xuhai hurriedly caught up with him.

This was a new ‘ability’ that Fu Shiwu had developed when he was urgently searching for Tang Xuhai earlier. At present, he could not only scan the ground and the surface of the building, but also deep into the building, to even the lowest floor.

Under Fu Shiwu’s exhaustive search, they soon identified more than a dozen spots where the bombs were buried or planted.

Shi Zheng had really gone crazy. There wasn’t a single place around this prison where no bombs were installed.

Following Fu Shiwu’s description, Tang Xuhai said solemnly: “These bombs are frighteningly powerful. If they explode on the aliens, even 10,000 of them could be killed.”

“Xuhai?” Fu Shiwu stared at him in utter astonishment. Why are you talking as though you agree with that lunatic Shi Zheng?!

“Shi Zheng’s strategy to lure the enemies into the depths of the prison is actually pretty smart.” Tang Xuhai held his arms, his eyes scarily cold.

“Are you serious?!” The girl looked at him in amazement and yelled: “Are you also going to sacrifice those survivors as bait?! I didn’t expect you to be a lunatic like him.”

“I don’t mean to sacrifice them.” Tang Xuhai raised a hand to press down the triggered young girl.

“Are you having some ideas?” Unlike her, Fu Shiwu wholeheartedly believed in Tang Xuhai’s ethics, and he remained completely calm at this point. As Fu Shiwu pushed his glasses up, the lenses reflected a cold light, making the people around him shudder.

This monster of a man… His whole body is emanating killing intent.

“Hmm…” Tang Xuhai looked at Fu Shiwu with a cold expression, and after a long moment, he finally spoke with a smile: “Just take out the bombs and move them to the routes that the aliens must pass by.”

A beam of light flashed in Fu Shiwu’s eyes: “And we just need to get ready to ambush him. We can wait until Shi Zheng has activated all the bombs, then kill him for good!”

“When the snipe and the clam grapple, it’s the fisherman who benefits1鶴蚌相爭,漁翁得利, an idiom that means that when two parties are caught in a fight, only the third party will benefit from it..” Miao Jia slapped his hands and exclaimed: “We can tage huge advantage of Shi Zheng’s plan, fantastic!”

They brainstormed a detailed plan and immediately turned to take action. Tang Xuhai, Miao Jia, Liu Peiqi and Hollande went to pick up these remote-controlled bombs, while Fu Shiwu and the others went to prevent the civilians from running amok after the team opened up the gate leading to the civilian camp.

These people had been horribly stirred up, for a bomb had just exploded nearby, causing many people to be injured. Some people’s ears no longer functioned, while some fell victim to the impact of the explosion and suffered severe burns.

Had it not been for Shi Zheng to build incredibly sturdy fences around this square, they would have run away.

With Fu Shiwu and a few others blocking the gate, the scared men and women tried to push them over, but they were stunned by the young girl’s sound waves.

Although it hurt a bit, it was also for their safety. Who knew if the aliens would rush in a moment later and kill all these people on the road?

With their eyes flooded with anger and despair, the civilians squeezed in front of the gate, and the two sides were neck and neck with each other.

    • He doesn't have his stuff :C

(DISCLAIMER; this information is not 100% verified/accurate. The following information discusses remotes prior/during 2014. Nowadays, just about anyone can hack a remote as most remotes are 'smart remotes' or emit electrical impulse without having access to aforementioned remote. Please take my words with a grain of salt.)

Although TV remotes do emit electrical pulse/wave signals, you have to have access to the remote and manually rewire it to 'hack it'. There's actually quite a few videos from around the time this novel came out about 'how to hack (modify) you TV remote'. Without access to the remote, you cannot hack it.
Shi Zheng modified a remote to make it detonate a bomb, but he couldn't do so without having a remote in his possession.

But long story short; Jia can't hack the remote no matter how hard he tries.

  • We can until Shi Zheng has activated all the bombs, then kill him for good!" <-- can wait until
