Chapter 65

“What proposal?” Tang Xuhai glanced at him in the rearview mirror.

“Do you remember the steel plate in your body?” Fu Shiwu said.

“Hm?” Tang Xuhai was puzzled: “Of course I remember, but it doesn’t affect me anymore.”

“If you can melt that steel plate into your body, can you do the same thing to other steel items?” Fu Shiwu continued: “If feasible, can you hide the weapons inside your body?”

Tang Xuhai’s eyes lit up: “Indeed, if the steel plate has really melted into my bones, maybe other metals can also.”

Huo Enting didn’t quite understand their discussion and was very confused. A steel plate can melt into a human body?!

Meanwhile, Wen Zhaoming was crudely pushed into a cell. Without his wheelchair, Wen Zhaoming couldn’t stabilise himself and awkwardly slumped to the ground, then Miao Jia was shoved in after him.

These villains couldn’t care less about Wen Zhaoming’s disability; on the contrary, they were getting blatantly ruder as each second passed by.

One of them even let out a wicked laugh as he uttered such nasty words: “Dude is just a cripple, but his dog-shit luck could actually awaken a fire-type ability. But then what? He’s got no legs!”

“Alright! Leave him alone. He’s just trash now. He can do naught without his wheelchair. Let’s go and drink.”

They laughed blaringly and turned to leave.

Wen Zhaoming looked at their backs with cold eyes, fiercely digging his fingertips into his palms. Miao Jia crawled over and carefully helped Wen Zhaoming sit up.

“Wen ge, are you okay?” Miao Jia watched Wen Zhaoming’s gloomy expression: “Don’t care about their nonsense! Wen ge, I know how powerful you are. What I’m worried is that they haven’t shown their full strength.”

Wen Zhaoming smiled bitterly and sat up, clutching onto Miao Jia’s hand: “I don’t care either. If I cared about these filthy words, I wouldn’t have left Heavenly Gardens.”

Without much help, he chose to flee from Heavenly Gardens, so Wen Zhaoming was mentally prepared to be ridiculed and discriminated against because of his disability. It was just that, by now, he still found it intolerable. His heart wasn’t so strong that he could simply ignore the gaze of certain people.

“Uhm.” Miao Jia breathed a sigh of relief, then he said angrily: “These men are disgusting. They already have more ability users than us and still point guns at our heads. What an undeserving win!”

Wen Zhaoming thought carefully about what happened in the morning.

All of a sudden, these people drove over and surrounded them. Although the team had put their defence up, they didn’t expect that the other party had seven ability users, who openly walked up to threaten them. Not to mention, some of them were directly pointing their pistols at the team members’ vital spots.

Out of impulse, Liu Zhao and Wu Shan suffered some minor injuries. Seeing that the situation wasn’t good, Wen Zhaoming summoned his fire powers before the fight came to a conclusion.

These people clearly wanted to capture them for revenge. After all, the group in the morning was considered a very powerful part of the Wild Wolf Gang, yet they were entirely wiped out just like that. If the gang leader didn’t severely punish the culprits in front of all his followers, his power would easily be shaken.

Wen Zhaoming quietly heaved a sigh. Miao Jia heard it at once, for his reaction had grown to be very sensitive by this point.

“Wen ge, what will happen to us?” Miao Jia wasn’t one with so much tenacity. Through the Internet, he was ready to face anyone with absolute confidence that he never fell on the losing side, but in this real world, this young man who had yet to fully mature was immensely terrified by the idea of death: “Will someone come to save us?”

Wen Zhaoming helplessly patted Miao Jia’s hand that was holding tightly onto his own hand: “Don’t worry, Tang Xuhai and Fu Shiwu will find a way.”

If the ones remaining outside were Liu Zhao, Wu Shan or Ma Dong, he might not be sure, but since they were Tang Xuhai and Fu Shiwu, he had faith that based on his understanding of their character after this whole journey together, they wouldn’t give up on their companions so easily. Those two would definitely do something, and they just had to wait for that moment.

Wen Zhaoming breathed out and observed the surroundings.

The prison cells on this floor were still in their original state, while those on the other floors had been converted into rooms for living.

It seemed that these cells were specially used to confine the rebels. In the silence, painful moans could vaguely be heard, making people truly quaking in their boots.

This prison was built not long ago, with a large area and rather comprehensive facilities. In addition to several buildings full of prison cells, there was also a library for leisure reading.

Shi Zheng didn’t like the administrative building where the police used to work, so he occupied the entire library and transformed it into his comfort zone.

Despite the apocalypse, he spent ample effort decorating this library, making it appear as extravagant as possible.

At present, Shi Zheng was sitting in a reading room whose original furniture had been entirely emptied. There was a full tea set on the coffee table in front of the comfy leather sofa. Shi Zheng calmly closed his eyes and sipped the fragrant tea.

“Boss, they aren’t very strong. They were caught as soon as we came at them.” The man who pushed Wen Zhaoming said disdainfully: “There’s an old, weak cripple, with zero gut. All of them are just the same. It must be that Li Jixian’s gang of second-hands has been too relaxed these days and thus get killed by such weaklings. That fire-type ability user is a loser, he spills everything as soon as we scare him. But they have a modified car that’s pretty good. There’s still a lot of food in it, we can have taste. Hey~ there’s jerky. I’ve given it to the kitchen. Boss, how about a good meal at noon?”

Shi Zheng opened his eyes and glanced indifferently at the man who was talking endlessly. Seeing the boss’ icy cold expression, the middle-aged man standing next to the chatty man immediately elbowed his stomach to make him shut up.

“Have you found Li Jixian?” Shi Zheng put down the teacup.

“We haven’t, boss.” The middle-aged man shook his head: “We’ve searched all over the route but couldn’t find him.”

“Grgh! What a worthless bunch!” A cold light flashed in Shi Zheng’s eyes.

The corner of the chatty man’s mouth twitched with fear.

Since they joined the Wild Wolf Gang, every day, they had been enjoying lavish feasts and playing with women, to the point that their lives right now were way cooler than before. But the boss also governed them with extremely strict rules.

If the mission he ordered couldn’t be completed, no matter whether it was a mutant or an ability user, the consequence would be ugly. This time, Li Jixian’s group leader died on the spot and he was the only one who survived. Shi Zheng would never take pity on him. Instead, he would send Li Jixian to accompany those who had kicked the bucket, which made it no surprise the bastard had disappeared without a trace.

The middle-aged man trembled and said at once: “I’ve increased the search party’s size. I believe he won’t be able to run far without any transportation. He’ll crawl back to us soon.”

“Uhm.” Shi Zheng snorted, refusing to comment any further. His emotionless eyes shifted to the middle-aged man: “I hope I can see him before tomorrow, regardless whether he’s dead or alive.”

The middle-aged man breathed a sigh of relief and acknowledged the order in a low voice.

At this moment, another man pushed open the door and walked in. He was wearing a casual shirt, with an expression that exuded nothing but cruel intent.

“Shi da ge, I’ve gotten the answer you need. This is his confession.” He handed Shi Zheng a folder.

Shi Zheng smiled at him: “Very good.”

Shi Zheng took advantage of the troubled times not only to regain his freedom, but also to rise to power. There was nothing he was dissatisfied with. But one thing that made him slightly unhappy was that the people around him couldn’t quite move along with his thinking.

These men came from various crime hotspots of Ping Nan town, but there were only a handful who were actually useful. The only person Shi Zheng was most pleased with was Jiang Hao, who was in the same cell as him.

If it weren’t for the aliens and the uncertain situation outside, he would’ve brought Jiang Hao back to his base camp in East Asia long ago and thrown away these good-for-nothing underlings that had gathered here.

As Shi Zheng flipped through the folder, his nonchalant expression changed. He straightened up, his eyes gleamed and he muttered to himself: “It turns out to be an old acquaintance. Interesting~”

A malicious smile formed on Shi Zheng’s face: “We need to welcome him in the best possible way.”

Wen Zhaoming and Miao Jia didn’t know that there were cameras inside the cell where they were locked up, through which their actions could be clearly observed. At the same time, those that were weak-minded and easily shaken were being interrogated in isolation.

This was actually a very simple trap. People were inclined to let down their vigilance if they thought that there were only themselves here. When they started talking to each other, the enemy would obtain some surprising information.

“Come here!” Shi Zheng walked out of the reading room like a gust of wind and eagerly gave his order: “Be prepared, I have an important guest coming to see me today!”

Without stopping for their meal, Tang Xuhai, Fu Shiwu and Huo Enting drove to the vicinity of Ping Nan town, abandoned the car and walked into the wilderness to keep themselves well-hidden.

The plan was wholly devised by Tang Xuhai, while the other two would follow exactly what he told them to.

Half-way through, Tang Xuhai left for a while, and when he came back, he carried a fat hare in his hand and cooked up a simple grill of rabbit meat.

While eating, Fu Shiwu asked: “When are we going?”

Tang Xuhai looked up at the sky: “Let’s wait until it gets dark.”

“What if they are being tortured or have been killed by now?” Huo Enting couldn’t help but blurt out.

Tang Xuhai said in a deep voice: “No, if Shi Zheng knows that I haven’t been captured, he won’t touch Lao Wen and the others for the time being. What Shi Zheng likes to do most is to keep a bargaining chip in his hand, then watch the opponents surrender by themselves. Before he sees me, he won’t let the hostage die a worthless death.”

Fu Shiwu frowned and immediately thought of Tang Xuhai’s original plan. If Huo Enting and he hadn’t tagged along, would Tang Xuhai have banged directly into their lair like this? He tried to imagine the scenario, but however he thought about it, he couldn’t figure a way for Tang Xuhai to safely get out.

“Do you have any countermeasures?” Fu Shiwu couldn’t help asking.

He wasn’t trying to withdraw, but with their current strategy, it was really possible that the whole team would perish. Such a case would be a real tragedy.

Tang Xuhai’s heart sank. He cast a complicated look at Fu Shiwu and said: “Now we can only hope that the prediction Miao Jia got from the Forum is correct. The sky veil will open again tonight, and this time, all of them will be evolved aliens.”

Fu Shiwu was shaken to the core.

  • Michelle, long time no see. Do you still remember me? :D

I wanted to point out that there seems to be an error in this chapter, though I don't know if it's a mistake by the author or not.

It is the paragraph starting with "Boss, they aren't very strong...."

That guy rambles something about an old, weak cripple, though our Wen Zaoming isn't that old! The important part is: "That fire-type ability user is a loser, he spills everything as soon as we scare him."

From what I recall, in a later chapter there'll be the information which group member told that guy informations about the team and THAT guy should be the one being talked about above. Because Wen Zaoming is not someone who will betray his comrades.

  • I'm really confused about Wen ZaoMing's age hahaha whether his age is just a little older(maybe 30) than MC & ML or actually a middle aged man _(:3 」∠)_

    • Michelle!! Let me reply to the comment, will you? (sending comments will result in me receiving a notice along the lines of "nope. you won't comment anything here"....)I'm being bullied o_O
(Edit: complaining works, yay I can reply :D)

Hoozuki, as far as I recall *looks at my notes*, his age hasn't been mentioned until now. At least I don't recall having read any description about it (for example "middleaged man in a wheelchair" or something like that).
So I guess he's not that much older than our 27 years old Xuhai, maybe really around the age of 30....

  • This story is so good. I wonder how I never discovered it, till now. Thank you for the translation.☺️

  • Thanks for the update! Can't wait to see the upcoming action! Will Shi Zheng live or die at the end of this? (In many stories, some villains live for future use)

    • Hi Bambootriangle, I think this is the first time I see your comment? ^^ Thank you for reading this novel. Hope to continue seeing your support in future chapters  ଘ( ´ ` )ଓ
