Chapter 63

It turned out that after the red glow on the sky disappeared for the first time and the aliens invaded every corner of the country, the prison in Ping Nan town where Shi Zheng was held wasn’t spared as well.

Just as the number of mutants slowly increased and the pressure on the wardens rose, the aliens eventually attacked and wiped out the place.

There were all sorts of men among the prisoners. This Shi Zheng was a cruel man, not to mention that he also went through a fever and completely awakened to become an enhancement-type ability user. He pulled off the iron bars and killed every single alien with his bare hands.

Shi Zheng’s savage show had the other prisoners madly look up to him, and it didn’t take long before he killed all the remaining wardens and took control of the whole prison.

These prisoners consisted of both mutants and special ability users, which allowed them to rapidly expand their influence. When the aliens evolved for the first time, Shi Zheng promptly took the opportunity to take over the entire Ping Nan town.

The survivors felt miserable, but for the sake of their lives, they had to quietly endure Shi Zheng’s atrocities.

The group of robbers they encountered today acted under Shi Zheng’s orders. Not only this route but other routes were also set up by Shi Zheng, where these robbers waited for survivors that passed by to throw themselves into the net.

This place was only 200 kilometers away from the provincial capital. It wasn’t like the survival base of the military district wasn’t yet aware of this dangerous tumour, but unfortunately they couldn’t spare any effort to clean it up. This in fact enabled Shi Zheng’s Wild Wolf Gang to spread even faster.

Tang Xuhai wore a gloomy expression as he clenched the hilt of the greatsword tightly with immense hatred. With a flick of his wrist, the greatsword fiercely pierced through the sly man’s body.

Fu Shiwu looked at him with worries. He wanted to help Tang Xuhai feel better but didn’t quite know what to say.

It could be said that Tang Xuhai harboured a sense of ‘fated’ responsibility towards Shi Zheng. Since Tang Xuhai captured this criminal with his own hands, he felt that it was on him to punish this man now that he was at large and wreaking havoc on other people. But regrettably, at the moment, the enemy had an incredibly powerful force backing him up, which Tang Xuhai’s tiny team couldn’t compare to.

After a moment of silence, Tang Xuhai said: “Let’s take a detour like how we original planned.”

“But, if we detour, our car will run out of gas.” Miao Jia said nervously.

He was feeling very comfortable these days. Both the solar panels and satellite antenna had been deployed on the car roof, which made it convenient to do everything. If there was no gas, they could only walk on their own two feet. What should he do with these things?

“Then abandon the car!” Tang Xuhai said firmly.

For the first time, Miao Jia expressed his unwillingness.

Fu Shiwu pressed Miao Jia’s shoulders and said calmly: “Xuhai is right, we can’t go strike heads-on into a disaster with just our small team. But giving up the supplies we have now is also detrimental to our future.”

Tang Xuhai frowned and looked at Fu Shiwu with heavy eyes.

Fu Shiwu gazed at Tang Xuhai resolutely and said: “We can abandon the cars, but not the modified car. Let’s gather the remaining gas on the other two cars and put all the supplies on the modified car, then the rest will walk on foot.”

Tang Xuhai’s eyebrows loosened and his expression eased off. He nodded: “What you said is feasible. Let’s do it that way.”

Thereafter, Tang Xuhai instructed the others to start bringing the things in their cars over to the modified car.

Fu Shiwu and Tang Xuhai didn’t join in the moving. Gazing at the greatsword that Tang Xuhai carried, Fu Shiwu asked: “Don’t you want to put this weapon in the car?”

Tang Xuhai raised his hand, as though it was only this moment that he remembered he had been holding onto a huge blade: “No, I’ll carry it myself. It’s not heavy anyway.”

Fu Shiwu glanced at him with a bit of astonishment, then his eyes shifted back to curiously pay attention to the majestic-looking greatsword.

“Can I try holding it?” Fu Shiwu said.

Tang Xuhai handed him the sword hilt without saying a word.

Fu Shiwu felt the weapon sink in his hand and almost couldn’t keep it.

“So heavy!” Fu Shiwu was amazed.

He saw Tang Xuhai carry it easily and totally didn’t expect that the actual weight of this greatsword would exceed his estimation by that much.

“Do you really feel that it’s not heavy at all?” Fu Shiwu couldn’t help asking.

Tang Xuhai stroked his chin and said thoughtfully: “I don’t think it’s weighty, it probably has something to do with my metal-type ability.”

Fu Shiwu nodded to express that he understood. Tang Xuhai walked one round to the commercial car that they would soon abandon and lifted the roof off it, then he infused that part onto the modified car.

Meanwhile, not far from the modified car, Li Jixian lay facing the sky with both eyes closed, the Dragonbone sword still stuck in his body.

Tang Xuhai’s eyebrows furrowed and he directly pulled the sword out.

Without the sword, Li Jixian’s wound began to bleed profusely.

Tang Xuhai threw a brief glance at Li Jixian’s face before turning around to walk away.

“Is he dead?” Fu Shiwu looked at the man questioningly.

“With that much blood loss, he should be dead.” Tang Xuhai pressed Fu Shiwu’s head, firmly turning it to the other direction to stop him from seeing too much.

Fu Shiwu unhappily glared at him. You know that my hair is always poking up, don’t touch it!

Tang Xuhai casually ignored Fu Shiwu’s round, big eyes that were severely lacking in lethal damage while his hands clutched the Dragonbone sword and the greatsword.

Seeing him deep in thoughts, Fu Shiwu obediently closed his mouth and didn’t disturb him any further.

Fu Shiwu walked over to help Miao Jia pack their things, then transferred the items from Huo Enting’s and Hollande’s cars over.

After finishing all the loading, Tang Xuhai asked Huo Enting to get into the car and drive, while everyone except Wen Zhaoming walked on foot.

“Miao Jia, you run with the car.” Tang Xuhai said.

“Ah?!” Miao Jia was dumbfounded: “Why?”

Tang Xuhai squinted and sneered: “I once said that I would give you special training, have you forgotten? I’m already kind enough to not let you carry any weight! Run!”

Miao Jia shuddered with fear and his face twisted into a miserable expression. He was a technical nerd through-and-through, whose physique and marksmanship was even below subpar.

Miao Jia tremblingly negotiated with Tang Xuhai: “Hai ge, I know you do it for my own good, but now the surroundings are so uncertain. Can we wait until we reach the military district to start the training?”

Tang Xuhai swung the greatsword and pointed it straight at Miao Jia: “No negotiation allowed. I think you don’t have enough motivation, so let me run with you.”

Tang Xuhai directly tipped the greatsword at Miao Jia’s butt. Miao Jia could only let out a loud scream and desperately started running.

Huo Enting switched on the car engine and turned around to follow Tang Xuhai.

Fu Shiwu silently watched the two men being all energetic and stepped forward to keep up with them.

After the group left, the robbers remained completely quiet on the ground, their souls returning to the Yellow Spring1黄泉 [huangquan] A spring that flows across Hell in Chinese belief. Usually, the term itself represents Hell..

As Li Jixian lay there with his eyes still closed, a rosy shade crawled back to his pale face and the pool of blood under him began to slowly flow back into the wound on his body.

Since he could become the second-in-command of this gang of robbers, it was a given that he must have something special. Controlling blood was his ability.

Tang Xuhai and the others didn’t know this, so he escaped by feigning death.

After a while, Li Jixian sat up and cast a resentful look at the direction of Tang Xuhai’s departure. He stood up and walked slowly towards Ping Nan town.

The sky gradually lit up. Although they had to walk on foot, with the heterogeneous molecules that humanity had yet to fully understand inside them and their enhanced physique, the group didn’t feel much tired, especially the mutants. In contrast, Miao Jia, who hadn’t gone through any mutation at all, was so exhausted he felt he could die.

Even if Tang Xuhai really wanted to chop him off now, Miao Jia really couldn’t move his legs anymore.

Luckily, Tang Xuhai wasn’t so ruthless, so he let Miao Jia get into the car to rest and take a look at the satellite images of their surroundings.

Tang Xuhai ran with Miao Jia for a few hours, but he looked completely okay. He walked by and listened to Fu Shiwu’s slightly rapid panting and couldn’t help but glance at him.

Fu Shiwu’s mouth had become super dry and his calves felt as heavy as lead.

It was just that his face was as stern and his expression was as blank as ever, so the other people walking around totally didn’t notice his real state.

Tang Xuhai said in a low voice: “You should also get in the car to rest. There are still some injuries on your body.”

Fu Shiwu shook his head. Turning down Tang Xuhai’s goodwill, he spoke softly: “They’re all minor injuries that don’t affect me much. I’m okay, these roads are nothing.”

Seeing Fu Shiwu so persistent, Tang Xuhai stopped trying to convince him. In any case, Fu Shiwu wasn’t entirely exhausted.

In the eyes of other people, Fu Shiwu was also a user of a ‘special ability’, so his physique should’ve been enhanced and he should have no problem with walking these roads.

But Fu Shiwu knew in his heart that he wasn’t an ability user and his body was nowhere as fit as the others, but he didn’t want to appear special.

Fu Shiwu didn’t want to talk further about it, instead, he asked Tang Xuhai: “You really won’t put down your greatsword?”

It wasn’t a toy, but a weapon made of real metal.

“It’s okay.” Tang Xuhai held the greatsword in one hand and the Dragonbone sword in the other: “It doesn’t take much effort to carry them. It just feels like my hands are always occupied, which isn’t very convenient.”

Fu Shiwu thought about it and said: “Let’s make you a sheath later. You can hang it directly on your waist or behind your back.”

“Uhm.” Tang Xuhai nodded.

Since they needed to detour around Ping Nan City, Miao Jia put all his mind on designing a fitting route. This time, they simply pass through villages and farmlands instead of following the usual road.

When they reached a fork in the road, Miao Jia called out: “There’s a village ahead, and I see a car!”

Everyone stopped and looked up at the winding road before their eyes.

Since it was blocked by mountains, they couldn’t see the end of the road, but spotting a car at this time meant that it was possible to find gasoline.

Fu Shiwu thought for a moment and said: “We don’t know if the village here has been swept over by Shi Zheng’s men.”

Miao Jia said eagerly: “It shouldn’t be. Everything in there still looks neat.”

Wang Dan couldn’t help saying: “Then let’s go take a look.”

Tang Xuhai cast a look at the other people and said: “You all rest here and prepare the meals. I can go up by myself.”

Fu Shiwu said: “I’ll come with you. Zhaoming will be here, there should be no problem.”

Tang Xuhai looked at Fu Shiwu with a bit of hesitance, but he eventually nodded: “If you get tired halfway, just sit still and wait for me to come back.”

Fu Shiwu felt displeased inside. I definitely won’t be so useless!

  • The moment ML was uncertain if he is dead, he should have just cut off the head or smth… why leave Potential danger 囧 ayee momentary forgetfulness bc he worries about MC I guess ╮(╯▽╰)╭

  • I really don’t like the “is he really dead clishe”. with the military training of Tang Xuhai this should not have happened and they should have checked if he is really dead…

    • Well it s only natural he would assume that way because according to the pre-apocalypse standards, someone would naturally die quickly with that kind of blood loss and it's probably been proven with other mutants and ability users

      • Plus I mean, dude was unmoving, unblinking and just bleeding out profusely. There's been no prior mention of special abilities like blood manipulation so it's easy to get a little complacent. I mean, even if cut if his head, what if he could just join it back to his body using his ability? He does seem pretty unkillable unless you burn or drown him. Even poisoning might not work.

  • Now the bonding is strong between them waiting for them to go to next step - Thank you for the update
