Chapter 57

As Ma Dong expressed his amazement, Huo Enting and Liu Zhao both felt that Fu Shiwu wasn’t scary, rather, the aura from him was too powerful. This wasn’t a temperament that could be formed just by status; it concealed some sort of spiritual power that couldn’t quite be explained.

Only those who had been staying in high ranks, been used to giving orders or perfected themselves through the most excruciating training could earn this kind of solid aura. However, Fu Shiwu’s age didn’t make it seem like he could be in such high ranks, yet he exuded such pressure. This was indeed strange.

Huo Enting even began to recall which big families in the country had such young people in power, secretly speculating about Fu Shiwu’s identity.

Liu Zhao’s thoughts weren’t that deep and his brain wasn’t that imaginative either. The most senior officials he had ever met were only head officials of provincial level, company presidents and so on. Fu Shiwu felt similar to those people, yet also a little different.

But as to what was the difference, he couldn’t tell.

The others, Wang Dan, Hollande, Liu Peiqi and Wu Shan, harboured no such thoughts and simply walked directly behind Fu Shiwu and Tang Xuhai to the cornfield.

In a large green cornfield, the corn stalks unanimously grew up straight, their wavy leaves long and narrow, their drooping leaf tips revealing conspicuous veins. The plump corn ears hanging at the top were exuding a healthy shade of reddish brown.

Each ripe corn plant was two to three meters in height, which seemed like it was indeed slightly mutated. It was no surprise that Wang Dan and Liu Peiqi didn’t notice any abnormality at all before the corn king attacked them.

But they noticed it now. From the slope on the side of the road, they could see an exceptionally tall corn plant standing right at the center of the cornfield. It had low-hanging leaves that were swaying slightly even though there was no wind at the moment.

“That corn plant, right?” Tang Xuhai squinted and said.

Liu Peiqi pressed down his excitement and nodded: “It’s that corn plant. As long as we get close to the cornfield, this corn plant will attack.”

“Oh? I actually want to see how it does that.” Tang Xuhai was eager to try.

He inquiringly walked into the cornfield as everyone else held their breath.

Indeed, this corn king truly held onto its grudge and launched an attack before that two-legged creature even came near its territory.

It immediately bared its ‘teeth and claws’, opened the corn husk, and “Swoosh swoosh”, many corn kernels flew towards Tang Xuhai.

“For real?!” Tang Xuhai raised his hand to block the corn kernels flying at his face. The corn king’s force wasn’t weak, and these kernels actually hurt once they hit Tang Xuhai’s body.

Tang Xuhai stepped back and cast an incredulous look at the corn plant that was wobbling left and right in an extremely smug manner.

“Just a corn plant, yet you dare to be so arrogant!” Tang Xuhai gritted his teeth.

Fu Shiwu couldn’t help it and laughed until his shoulders shook. Tang Xuhai glared at him, so looking at me being bullied by a corn plant is that fun?!

“I don’t believe that I can’t deal with you!” Tang Xuhai sneered coldy, took out the combat knife strapped on his weapon belt, then he charged towards the cornfield.

Seeing the menacing aura of that two-legged creature, the corn king instantly burst open its corn husk again, shooting out whole corn cobs as though they were cannonballs.

Not only that, the other corn plants around the corn king also opened their corn husks one after another. The corn cobs simultaneously flew like missiles propelled out of their chamber, with a massive momentum that was ready to smash the whole place!

Miao Jia pushed Wen Zhaoming’s wheelchair over. Utterly dumbfounded, Miao Jia muttered to himself: “Plants vs. Zombies.”

The large patch of corn plants on the other side was like an army of a thousand horses, and Tang Xuhai, a lone soldier from the opposing side, looked truly eye-catching yet also truly pitiful.

Fu Shiwu couldn’t laugh anymore. Even if they were just corn, it would still hurt a lot if Tang Xuhai got hit.

He started moving and ran in the direction of Tang Xuhai.

Wang Dan looked at Liu Peiqi for a second, then the two also ran over.

Soon, with Fu Shiwu being his GPS, Tang Xuhai rammed all the way in and tossed aside all the corn plants that were in the way, directly reaching the special ability corn.

With his combat knife, Tang Xuhai viciously chopped off the corn king which, at a closer look, was even taller than expected.

The corn husk stopped opening any further, and the corn cobs that were half-way flying towards them fell down with a rustling sound, crushing all the corn leaves below.

“This corn plant is amazing.” The spots where the corn hit Fu Shiwu’s face and body had turned red with soreness.

He then cast glance at Tang Xuhai, who suffered an even worse consequence than him. He blocked most of the corn cobs by staying in the front, and some of the bruises had turned into a deep shade of purple.

“They’ve turned purple.” Fu Shiwu’s eyebrows furrowed as he looked at Tang Xuhai’s arms.

“Damn, I didn’t expect this corn plant to be so capable.” With an unamused expression, Tang Xuhai raised his arms to inspect the red and purple patches.

“I’ll spray some pain relief on them once we get back.” Fu Shiwu instantly remembered the spray still lying inside Tang Xuhai’s backpack.

Tang Xuhai simply let out an “Uhm”.

Wang Dan and Liu Peiqi’s shout came from behind and Tang Xuhai shouted back in a not-so-delighted tone.

“Its corn stalk is so thick.” Liu Peiqi, who was walking over, looked at the corn king who had been chopped off in the middle of the field with bewilderment.

Wang Dan squeezed to his side, reached out and picked up the broken stalk, then she tilted her head and said: “The special ability ox earlier has quite delicious meat. I wonder if this special ability corn also tastes good?”

“No idea.” Tang Xuhai said irately: “Now there’s only its stalk left, you can try getting a taste.”

Wang Dan saw his grumpy expression and didn’t dare to speak anymore. She waited for Tang Xuhai to turn away before secretly turning to grin at Liu Peiqi.

Liu Peiqi didn’t quite understand yet.

Wang Dan scratched her short hair and turned her head to look around: “But how do we find those kernels?” 

The kernels of that special ability corn had been widely scattered across this vast field since long ago, making it difficult to find them again.

Tang Xuhai thought for a moment and said: “Go back to the place where you were ambushed, and the place where the corn king first attacked me. Those corn kernels should still be there.”

In the end, the group trotted around those spots and collected fewer than 300 corn kernels.

“These should all belong to the special ability corn itself.” Tang Xuhai nodded.

At first, the corn king shot out the corn kernels on its body, and later all the corn cobs were also fired. So the loose corn kernels that were still on the ground must belong to it.

Miao Jia also came to join in the fun and helped pick up the corn kernels. Putting the twenty-odd corn kernels into Liu Peiqi’s hands, he said regretfully: “There are hundreds of corn kernels on a single ear of corn, but this is only half the number.”
