Chapter 53

Wen Zhaoming, who was having a shut-eye to put some rest to his mind, opened his eyes upon hearing Fu Shiwu’s voice.

“Hey~ Fu ge, what’s the matter?” Miao Jia looked back at him happily.

“I’ve been very curious.” Fu Shiwu said as he restlessly flicked his seat belt. He wanted to try chatting with Miao Jia to make an attempt at establishing a deeper relationship with him. At present, it seemed that Miao Jia was an indispensable companion, so Fu Shiwu felt that he had to brush up some closeness with this young man.

“How do you get so much information through this laptop and the antenna?” Saying that, Fu Shiwu’s curiosity was definitely not a pretense. Computing and hacking were, after all, foreign fields that Fu Shiwu had never come into contact with in his whole life.

Miao Jia smiled. Since he was very confident about his talent, Fu Shiwu’s question just hit the right spot.

“It’s very simple!” Miao Jia said to Fu Shiwu eagerly: “I just pretend to be their internal communication signal, send it to the satellite, wait until the satellite data is transmitted, and meanwhile, I also crack the password to the internal operation of the satellite. This is equivalent to getting control over the whole system. And with control, of course you can use it however you want!”

Wen Zhaoming was also interested in listening and asked: “Then how do you get their internal communication signal? “

Miao Jia said as-a-matter-of-factly: “This is even simpler. The satellite communication signal of the troops back at the warehouse travelled so blatantly in the air, and I wasn’t blind. I made a copy of it just in case and accidentally cracked it, then turned it to a signal generator.”

Miao Jia made it sound as easy as eating three meals a day, but the three grown men who had never been technology geeks knew it mustn’t be that simple.

It was the army’s encrypted signal that they were talking about here!

Luckily, this young guy went to the police academy and later became a policeman. If he was allowed to run amok in the society, who knew what sort of trouble he might cause.

“I saw that you could get quite some satellite images along the way. Are there so many satellites in the sky?” Fu Shiwu asked with bafflement.

Even if a single satellite could reach a very large area, it shouldn’t be that there were always satellites above them throughout the whole journey?

“There are several military satellites above us.” Miao Jia said seriously: “After all, the world is such a huge mess now, and the government wants to keep the situation in each province in control. That said, those satellites follow the orders from the satellite center and are moving very fast, as though they’re scanning something. But even after these satellites leave, it’s not like our hands will be totally tied.”

Miao Jia smiled and said with a particularly naive smugness: “There are also satellites from other countries in our sky, as long as they are within the range of Huaxia, I can connect with them. For example, we’ve passed by satellites of R country, Y country and A country before…”

Tang Xuhai was almost choked. This had gone beyond the scope of crime. Isn’t this damn near being a terrorist?!

Wen Zhaoming also couldn’t say anything except for some feeble “Hahaha…”. Weren’t those satellites military satellites? Isn’t it said that there are laser weapons on them?

Only Fu Shiwu specially admired Miao Jia’s ‘amazing’ deeds and said to him earnestly: “Incredible!”

Miao Jia responded with a massively happy face.

Looking at him smiling so gleefully in the rearview mirror, Tang Xuhai sighed secretly. In any case, in a world that was already like this, even if Miao Jia carried out such acts, no one would bother. Besides, they were benefiting directly from his capability.

As Miao Jia and Fu Shiwu kept on talking about satellite and computer technology, it was basically Miao Jia talking the whole time and Fu Shiwu listening attentively.

Although Fu Shiwu didn’t understand most of Miao Jia’s ramblings, he fully aroused Miao Jia’s zeal. The young man proudly gave a lecture on various professional jargons like a teacher.

Miao Jia tapped his fingers on the keyboard and switched the satellite targets from time to time.

“Right now there’s a weather satellite above us!” Miao Jia said, continuing to search for the information and images from the laptop. He even entered the Meteorological Service Department’s database following the satellite transmission, but the department was not working at the moment at all, so Miao Jia couldn’t gain any information.

He looked at the screen and said with uncertainty: “There should be a continuous rain on our side in the next few days, and the temperature will drop drastically.”

“The temperature will drop?” Fu Shiwu was surprised.

“Yes, it’ll probably cool down by 7 or 8 degrees.” Miao Jia nodded: “This is what the measurement and control data shows.”

Fu Shiwu looked at the short-sleeve shirt he was wearing, thinking that it should be able to handle a drop of 7 or 8 degrees in temperature. But at this point, Tang Xuhai said: “When there’s a good opportunity, we can gather some clothes for autumn and winter.”

Fu Shiwu pondered for a moment. This decision was a bit too out of their plan, but…

“Okay. We might not be able to get clothes once we reach the military district.”

“Uhm, so our next goal is a town or settlement.” Tang Xuhai said calmly.

“Will it be too risky to go to a town?” Wen Zhaoming asked thoughtfully.

“It’ll be fine. The town nearest to us is Raoxian Town, a rather small one. Looking at the satellite images, it’s quite safe.” Miao Jia said without looking up from behind.

Quite safe? Fu Shiwu’s eyes darkened. This meant that no alien was there. At a time like this, if a place had no aliens, it could only mean that the humans there had all died.

“No alien doesn’t mean that it’s safe.” Fu Shiwu said solemnly: “Maybe there will be plants or animals with special abilities.”

Hearing those words, Miao Jia raised his head and laughed dryly: “Can our luck be that bad?!”

Based on the statistics he had gathered before, there were very few animals with abilities in H Province. It was already beyond his belief that they managed to cross paths with one special ability giant ox.

Wen Zhaoming said in a deep voice: “Let’s not harbour the thoughts that we can depend on survival luck.”

“Shiwu, can you take another look before we enter the town?” Tang Xuhai said.

“What do you want to look at?” Fu Shiwu didn’t catch Tang Xuhai’s idea, then he quickly reacted: “Are you talking about me using that ‘ability’?”

“Uhm.” Tang Xuhai nodded.

“But, my range of perception isn’t very large. The town is a bit beyond the range.” Fu Shiwu’s expression showed some struggle, but he still nodded: “I’ll try my best!”

“Excellent!” Tang Xuhai smiled at him commendingly.

Reaching the border of Raoxian Town, all eleven of them got out of the car.

“What are they going to do?” Ma Dong quietly asked Liu Zhao.

“I don’t know.” Liu Zhao shook his head.

Huo Enting frowned as he gazed at Fu Shiwu’s back. The man was standing there completely unmoved, while Tang Xuhai and Wen Zhaoming were guarding on both sides.

Miao Jia watched Fu Shiwu with curiosity. He only knew that Fu Shiwu’s marksmanship was very powerful. What was Fu Shiwu doing standing motionless and staring blankly ahead?

At this moment, Fu Shiwu suddenly took a step forward, which instantly had Tang Xuhai’s nerves tighten up: “What’s the matter?”

“Nothing, there’s nothing unusual in the range I felt. I want to go forward to look a bit.” Fu Shiwu turned behind and said.

Now everything in his mind was monochrome three-dimensional images. All the objects that his eyes could see had blurred and disappeared, but it wasn’t the same as the feeling of blindness. He could still feel every detail, even the smallest pebble on the ground.

Wen Zhaoming was a little worried: “Stay safe.”

“Uhm, I want to try expanding the range.” Fu Shiwu clenched his fists and took two more steps. He raised his head, closed his eyes and gave his utmost effort to expand the range of the images in his mind.

In front, the images within his field of vision slowly spread out. One meter, two meters, then three meters…

By the time Fu Shiwu had expanded them by forty meters, he couldn’t stand the dizziness anymore and his whole body shuddered. Having kept a close watch on him, Tang Xuhai immediately stepped forward and hugged his shoulders.

The dizziness faded like a retreating tide. Fu Shiwu opened his eyes, blankly watching Tang Xuhai’s face that gradually took shape in his sight.

Tang Xuhai eyebrows furrowed and he snapped with anger: “Even if you want to expand the range, you have to take it step by step! Are you trying to toss yourself to death like this?”

How could he not know Fu Shiwu’s character, always so serious and rigid? If he said to expand the range, he definitely would continue until he saw the entire town!

Fu Shiwu was an out-and-out hard worker. If the apocalypse didn’t happen, a man like him would only have one way to die, that was, death from overwork!

Being so ruthlessly reprimanded by Tang Xuhai, Fu Shiwu could only feel upset and frustrated. He lowered his head and apologised like a good child: “I’m sorry.”

Tang Xuhai was seriously enraged. This wasn’t the first time that Fu Shiwu had tried too hard and almost knocked himself down.

Tang Xuhai heaved a long sigh: “I know you want to expand the range, but you have to take a good rest first. You just exhausted yourself in the morning. Don’t make people worry so much, will you?!”

“Uhm.” Fu Shiwu felt thoroughly ashamed now. He had never experienced the feeling of being so worried about by others, and this made his heart uneasy. “I just want to look at the whole town and make sure there’s no hidden danger, so that it’ll be easy for us to find things later. In that way, you all won’t have to be accidentally injured.” Fu Shiwu muttered softly.

Seeing Fu Shiwu almost wishing that he could just bury his head in the ground, Tang Xuhai finally couldn’t bear to scold him.

He calmed his tone down and said: “Then how much have you looked at?”

“About half the town?” Fu Shiwu replied.

Tang Xuhai was shocked to the core.

Although this town had a relatively small area, with only two streets and one main road in total, the whole area was still a few square kilometers. But Fu Shiwu said that he could scan half of its area in one go?

“Can your perception really cover such a big area now?” Tang Xuhai exclaimed in disbelief.

“Actually, when I was on the top of the mountain this morning, I could perceive the whole road below the mountain peak.” Fu Shiwu said with an embarrassed expression.

That area is not much less than half of this town! Tang Xuhai roared in his heart.

He swallowed hard as a familiar word popped out in his mind: Monster!

Tang Xuhai could see that Fu Shiwu’s ability was getting more and more powerful as he used it!

Then Tang Xuhai thought of Huo Enting, who managed to manifest his water-type ability into a lethal water gun once he was pushed to the limit.

Was it possible that pushing the very limit of their powers was the way to improve their abilities?!

Tang Xuhai was stunned to think that he seemed to have discovered some unbelievable truth.

Still having his shoulders tightly hugged by a guy who was at least half-a-head taller than him, Fu Shiwu twitched his body uncomfortably. Hey… why are you still not letting go?

  • I sometimes think about how many special ability users could've been 'produced'/come from Heavens Garden, the apartment complex. The 6 lunatics from the beginning really wiped out at a minimum 100 potential special ability users.

  • Hey~ Just wanted to point out that I think you're missing a word near the end of the chapter: "Was it possible that [pushing] the very limit of their powers was the way to improve their abilities?!"

Thank you for all your hard work =3=
