Chapter 26

That day, the three of them discussed for a long time, but they were, after all, just speculation. They could only learn of more accurate news by coming into contact with other people outside.

Wen Zhaoming’s body temperature dropped steadily. They decided that the moment he fully recovered, the three of them would leave the bomb shelter.

Staying in the bomb shelter for nearly a week almost felt like being put in complete isolation from the dangers outside. But the three knew too well that they wouldn’t be able to hide forever in this place with no supplies, while more and more aliens were gathering around them.

The only way out was to head for the central warehouse in the eastern suburbs.

Reaching that agreement, Wen Zhaoming actively tried to recuperate. Fu Shiwu still focused on his overly serious training, or if he wasn’t doing that, he would go on endless rounds of unloading and loading the magazine. Meanwhile, Tang Xuhai began to wonder how to modify his new weapon — the steel bar that he had picked up from the supermarket earlier.

The correct name of this kind of steel bar was ‘light steel keel’, which was the most common material used to build ceilings in large supermarkets.

At that time, Tang Xuhai brought it back thinking that he could make it into a throwing weapon for long-range combat, but now that he knew about his probable special ability, he decided to give some serious thoughts to this steel bar.

Tang Xuhai held the long bar in his hand, pondering how he could use his unexplored ability to transform the steel.

His mind was running at a high speed as he tightly squeezed the bar. Should it be transformed into a throwing knife or a tri dagger1A dagger with three blood grooves on its sides.? His multi-purpose shovel should be able to change this steel bar into that.

At this moment, he felt something wrong with the steel bar in his hand. Looking carefully, he found that the place where the bar came into contact with his palm had been deformed, sinking into a dent the shape of his palm.

Tang Xuhai was taken aback. Was this steel bar so weak?

No, it shouldn’t be that the light steel keel was deformed by his hand. Noting this, Tang Xuhai focused his attention on the spot where his hand touched the bar. Under the control of his consciousness, the bar gradually softened, as if being melted in a high-temperature furnace, and slowly turned into molten steel!

Ecstatic, Tang Xuhai immediately manipulated this new-found ability to shape the molten steel into the shape he wanted.

Two shiny silver Tang daos2A type of Chinese sword invented during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 – 907), a pivotal point for Chinese sword making techniques. It’s a highly tactical sword designed for combat with superb cutting ability.appeared in his hands!

Tang Xuhai looked at the two sharp, glowing Tang daos before his eyes and nodded delightfully.

His combat knife was made of remarkably high quality carbon steel, so this light steel keel was of course not comparable. However, in close combat with an alien that had tentacles, a combat knife would be at a loss in terms of damage range. It wouldn’t be as favourable as a Tang dao, which could guarantee a longer range and better maximise the advantages of a cold weapon.

Naturally, Tang Xuhai couldn’t use a Tang dao as dexterously as a combat knife, but the essence of using similar weapons was ultimately the same.

In the blink of an eye, the light steel keel in Tang Xuhai’s hand turned into a pair of Tang daos, which obviously attracted the attention of the other two.

Wen Zhaoming exclaimed: “Is this your ability? You can control metal.”

Tang Xuhai was enormously happy, but he tried to press down his excitement: “It should be, but I think it’s a little different from yours. It seems that I cannot manipulate it without touching the metal.”

Fu Shiwu said: “But this ability of yours can directly affect the steel plate in your body. Perhaps it’s even rarer than Wen Xiaoming’s.”

Tang Xuhai tried hard to not smile too brightly: “I hope it is.” He restrained his eagerness and said in a low voice: “In short, this shouldn’t be the limit. There are still many aspects to be developed and explored.”

“You’re right.” Wen Zhaoming nodded: “I can’t be satisfied with being able to only ignite and put out a fire.”

The fact that Tang Xuhai and Wen Zhaoming had shown extraordinary abilities made Fu Shiwu unable to calm down. He said enviously: “It’s great, isn’t this a blessing in disguise? Both of you have super powers. If only I could also have something.”

Tang Xuhai cast him a strange look. Fu Shiwu himself was already monstrous enough and he still felt dissatisfied. How much more horrifying do you want to get?!

“It’s a bit odd to call it a super power. Now people like to say that this should be called a special ability. Besides, Fu Shiwu, don’t underestimate yourself. If I don’t tell you, you still don’t know how powerful you are?” Tang Xuhai calmly faced the stunned Fu Shiwu and continued: “As far as I know, only shooting masters could reach the state of a complete absence of his consciousness while aiming, then fire his gun with full consciousness. But you, you were able to do it the first time you practised aiming!”

Tang Xuhai’s grim expression had Fu Shiwu straighten his body and listen with all his attention.

“This is very unusual, maybe it’s your special skill. Don’t waste or ignore this talent!” Tang Xuhai said solemnly.

Fu Shiwu nodded equally solemnly: “I understand, I’ll definitely work hard to train this ability, and I’ll definitely not slow you down!”

“…”

Tang Xuhai didn’t mean that! Not to mention, Fu Shiwu really shouldn’t have to exhaust himself so seriously…

Sitting in his electric wheelchair, Wen Zhaoming wanted to help pack things but was rejected by Fu Shiwu and Tang Xuhai. There were not many items, so the two big men packed up quickly and moved everything to the entrance with only a few trips.

Wen Zhaoming manoeuvred his electric wheelchair to follow behind the two of them. Tang Xuhai held the duo swords in his hands, which he named Duo Dragonbone Swords, while Fu Shiwu clutched his pistol and opened the door with one hand.

Tang Xuhai ran out of the door first, followed by Fu Shiwu.

“Don’t make too much movement, it’ll attract the aliens!” Tang Xuhai bellowed softly and jumped directly onto the roof of the SUV, his sharp eyes scanning the surroundings.

Staying closely behind him, Fu Shiwu walked briskly to the side of the car and pulled open the door to let Wen Zhaoming quickly get in.

The neighbourhood of Dongtian Cinema was as solitary as usual, but an alien was walking on a street not far away, seeming to be looking for prey.

Two nights had passed and the population of aliens in the eastern part of Yun City had risen again.

As the people in the city gradually fled to other places, it became increasingly difficult for these aliens to find their targets, fueling them to frantically rush over the moment they saw a human figure.

“Yaaa!!!” Its cry was still as piercing as ever, but this particular one seemed to be overwhelmed with joy.

Not letting the alien pounce on him so easily, Tang Xuhai flew towards the running alien, and the creature directly swung its tentacles towards its prey. Tang Xuhai held the two swords in front of him, and with a sharp flash of light, the blades cut off its tentacle.

“Hiss —” The alien screamed as blood wildly spurted out from where its arm was chopped off.

Tang Xuhai laughed angrily: “Your blood is also red, why can’t you eat some healthier food?!”

Infuriatingly, he waved the two Tang daos in his hands, slashing one across the alien’s waist and stabbing the other right into its remaining arm.

With an earth-shattering roar, the alien was completely cut in half!

“Two more are coming!” Fu Shiwu yelled out nervously.

“Don’t worry! Just move the things and get in the car!” Tang Xuhai continued running, the tactical boots on his feet rubbing heavily against the ground as he charged up his strength and bolted towards the other two aliens that had been attracted by the screams.

With a slight worry, Fu Shiwu watched Tang Xuhai put up a warm welcome for the aliens, followed by a most glamorous, bloody killing spree.

He gazed at Tang Xuhai running from left to right, facing the two aliens all by himself. Tang Xuhai was remarkably agile and nimble, briskly decapitating both the aliens before they could even touch him.

“Don’t worry, Tang Xuhai’s strength is definitely okay.” Wen Zhaoming said after settling down in the car: “At worst, I can help him with my ability.”

“Uhm.” Fu Shiwu nodded and stopped staring at Tang Xuhai, then he started to pick up their stuff and placed them in the car one by one.

No one knew what kind of life was awaiting them in the future. If they continued to be homeless, all these appliances would be indispensable for their life in the upcoming days.

In Tang Xuhai’s backpack was a set of equipment that looked like a radio, which had been carefully modified to receive public signals from nearby troops. It was thanks to this set of equipment that the three of them managed to collect the latest news about the aliens and formulated a plan of action.

The scene of the car accident that had been transformed into a fortification still attracted many aliens to the eastern district. The troops had become more relieved over time as they gradually gathered a better understanding of these aliens’ characteristics. After receiving supplies including weapons and ammunition, they had decided to make this spot into an alien ‘meat grinder’.

Tang Xuhai’s suggestion was to take the original route. If they took a detour, it would take longer, not to mention that the number of aliens they would encounter might not be fewer than the amount they had to face on the battlefield. Fu Shiwu and Wen Zhaoming were no experts in coming up with a strategy for battle, so naturally, they followed Tang Xuhai’s words.

With his killing intent aroused, Tang Xuhai destroyed all the aliens that dared to come his way and returned to the SUV.

By the time Tang Xuhai opened the door and got into the car, seven or eight alien corpses were lying on the ground. “Let’s go, it’s temporarily safe here.”

“Uhm.” Fu Shiwu nodded solemnly.

The SUV casually flicked its rear and turned around, heading towards the main road.

Fu Shiwu and Wen Zhaoming held tightly onto the handrails in preparation of any bumps or sudden turns. Ready for the next battle, Tang Xuhai stepped on the accelerator to raise the car speed to its maximum, swiftly passing through the old streets and turning into the main road.

“There’s an alien!” Startled, Fu Shiwu sat up straight, his other hand also firmly clutching the handrail.

“Don’t panic, they’re all heading for the fortification.” Tang Xuhai observed for a moment and said.

On both sides of the road were neat rows of tall buildings, and from time to time, a few aliens would rush out of the alleys between the buildings. They had all quickly flooded here, determined to deal a massive blow to the temporary fortification in front.

  • What are the odds that all 3 of them would develop some kind of superpower? And its kinda interesting how MC's power is shooting(??) And ML is a metal-bender because well MC can't hurt him at all lmfao

    Thanks for the chapter ♡♡♡♡♡

  • The silly thing is though, why would they send troops down to dominate? Why not bombard from space?

I read a lot of hfy and there are so many ways to pacify without actually landing... Why not use a contagious diease? Makes no sense.

They came all this way for a drive through mcbrain happy meal? Really? Makes no sense all of this for what? Snacks?

    • I- What?- Bro, going to space isn't children's play. I mean, they could attempt an airstrike- but attacking from space seems implausible in such a small period of time. A earthling contagious disease is unlikely to harm the aliens but will 100% affect humans, resulting in more damage than good.

Though I must say, sending armored troops instead of fighter jets is a bit silly but oh well, it's 2014. It's a decade old.

  • I really wanna see people being scared silly because of the MC... and MC be like “m I that scary? I just wanted to help"

    • Hi Cazela, thanks for checking out this novel ^^~
And to your question, nope, they don’t have any crystal, so our characters don’t have to absorb crystals to level up. This book has a rather different levelling system, let’s explore its world-building together! :D

  • Kind of reminds me of The Reborn Otaku’s Code of Practice for the Apocalypse with the apocalypse, super ability gain, and ml having metal powers. But hey, this was published first in 2014 and I'm not complaining since I'm interested in this story. Thanks for the great translation!

    • Hi bardeen, thanks for checking out this novel too! Hope to receive your support in future chapters ^^~

    • Oh! Excellent work by the way! The novels you have on this site are SO GOOD, and the translation quality is to die for!

      • Thank you for checking out the novels on this little site and for your very hearty comment! Such is incredibly encouraging (*´▽`*)Hope to receive your support in the future too~
