Chapter 22

“Haha!” Tang Xuhai couldn’t help himself and steadily stomped his left foot on the ground. He threw his right leg three times into their air and felt nothing wrong at all.

Tang Xuhai stood up straight, pivoted on his right leg, turned his body 180 degrees to throw yet another kick and landed firmly on the ground. Immediately afterwards, he pressed on his legs and made three consecutive backflips and one front handspring, then he gently landed on the tips of his right toes and smoothly stood up.

The movements were carried out swiftly and neatly, and Tang Xuhai shook up slightly as his whole body was charged with eagerness. He yearned to throw a barrage of kicks at a punching bag and finished with the bag exploding.

He hadn’t been able to move this freely since his leg was injured.

Tang Xuhai’s eyes lit up as if a flame was burning inside those eyes, feeling like a lion waking up from a long sleep.

The frustration hidden deep in his bones was finally swept away. He was an ace of the army again!

Tang Xuhai forcibly pressed down the urge to move around even more aggressively as the corners of his mouth tugged up in sheer delight. He took a few deep breaths and slightly rubbed his tactical boots against the ground, then his whole body bolted forward like an arrow fired from the bow.

Tang Xuhai proceeded with ghostly movements, stealthily hiding himself behind the hidden corners of the city. Amid his steady breathing, he smoothly concealed himself like a dragon in the sea and a tiger in the jungle.

Unlike Fu Shiwu’s vigilant but slow movements, Tang Xuhai was flying forward at full force, but his motions were completely silent.

His eyes swept through the jumbled streets. The sun was at the position of around 9 o’clock in the morning and the air hadn’t fully warmed up yet. It was a good time to go all out.

With this renewed physical condition, Tang Xuha decided to spontaneously change his target and walked through the old community, towards the big supermarket.

Fu Shiwu took great care of him, so he might as well give the brat some compensation.

Then Tang Xuhai suddenly remembered that Fu Shiwu had completely taken control over his pack of cigarettes. One cigarette a day was way too little.

The big supermarket didn’t escape the fate of being ransacked, its glass doors and windows all smashed to pieces and entirely burnt black, looking both filthy and messy.

Tang Xuhai stepped on the broken glass and walked into the supermarket.

Without any lighting, the sun rays penetrated through the windows at the entrance that was a distance away, shedding only a dim light onto the space.

But Tang Xuhai wasn’t afraid in the slightest. This light was enough for him.

The supermarket was a complete mess, with fallen shelves, scattered goods, broken glass cabinets and all the valuable commodities snatched away.

Unfortunately, cigarettes were also one of these valuable commodities. The broken glass cabinet had been almost entirely wiped out, and the few packs of cigarettes that were left behind were brands that Tang Xuhai didn’t like.

“Tsk.” Tang Xuhai grumpily grabbed one pack and muttered to himself: “Are you all bandits? You wiped everything completely clean. You can’t eat this thing you know!”

But no matter how unhappy he was, Tang Xuhai had no choice but to stuff these packs of cigarettes into his backpack. He continued to move to the front to find that the Foods section didn’t escape the same fate. Its pitiful emptiness looked as though someone had licked the whole place clean.

But Tang Xuhai’s target wasn’t this section anyway. As he walked to the neighbouring Beverage section, the water, beverages, beer, and liquor had all gone missing.

This left Tang Xuhai speechless. Although he never expected to find drinking water when he came to this supermarket, he didn’t actually think that it would be this hopeless?!

Tang Xuhai moved to the second floor. Compared with the looted first floor, the items on the second floor were relatively intact.

After thinking about Fu Shiwu’s size, Tang Xuhai picked a shirt for him. For a brat who paid so much attention to his image, he deserved to be praised for the fact that he had worn the same shirt for a few days and hadn’t complained a single word about it.

It wasn’t that Fu Shiwu had no clothes to change, but the clothes he brought with him had all been used to cover Wen Zhaoming. Although Wen Zhaoming now had a blanket, looking at his weak state, Fu Shiwu decided to spread the clothes underneath to keep him warm.

After picking and choosing from the Clothing section, Tang Xuhai stopped after taking a few pieces for each person and placed them all into his backpack.

Big supermarkets often carried camping supplies. Those were actually Tang Xuhai’s target this time.

The camping section only occupied a small corner, but the goods on display were extremely sufficient. Tents, foldable chairs, sleeping bags, alcohol stoves, solid alcohol, double-layer lunch boxes, three-layer electric lunch box…

Tang Xuhai nodded in satisfaction when he saw his target.

They definitely needed sleeping bags, so he grabbed three. Solid alcohol and a multi-purpose lunch box were also necessary.

And the most important thing was to find something to replace Fu Shiwu’s leather shoes!

Standing by the shelf, Tang Xuhai picked up a pair of brown tactical boots.

“His foot size should be about 41.” Tang Xuhai visualised Fu Shiwu’s bare feet, which were much smaller than his.

He threw away the shoe box, tied the shoelaces, put a few pairs of socks inside and swung the shoes over his shoulder. Mission accomplished!

“I’m too kind already.” With much satisfaction, Tang Xuhai enthusiastically praised himself and got ready to head back.

As he walked down the elevator that no longer functioned, his tactical boots pressed on the metal floor and made a slight “crack” sound.

The supermarket’s first floor was dead silent and even such a soft noise echoed clearly in the air. Tang Xuhai narrowed his eyes and quietly threw the backpack aside.

When he approached the Beverage section, an alien knocked over the shelf and rushed at him screaming.

“Haha, good, come here!” Tang Xuhai wasn’t surprised and even rejoiced, drawing out his combat knife and readily welcoming the creature.

With his right leg recovered, his movements had become much more nimble. He dodged left and right to avoid the alien’s two tentacles, then lifted his leg and kicked at its chest.

“Hiss—” Receiving a piercing kick on the chest, the alien lost its breath and smashed into a shelf.

The shelf fell down and a few cans of beer rolled out.

Something important appears!

Tang Xuhai swept another glance at his surroundings, at which point another alien jumped out from his left. A sharp light flashed in Tang Xuhai’s eyes as he raised one hand and tossed his combat knife.

“Bam!” With a muffled sound, the knife slammed into the alien’s forehead.

And it hadn’t stopped there as one more alien came from behind Tang Xuhai!

“Tsk!” Tang Xuhai didn’t quite know what to say. He ran two steps forward to get close to the alien that was struggling to get up, then stretched out his long leg and whipped a roundhouse kick.

“Crunch!!!” Amid the sound of broken bones, the alien’s head burst open like a watermelon!

Tang Xuhai was actually a little shocked by this outcome, but he didn’t have time to think about it. He quickly turned around, picked up a steel bar that had fallen down from the ceiling and threw it at the alien near the shelf.

The alien reacted remarkably fast and dodged it in a flash, but by this point, Tang Xuhai had already rushed over.

The alien hurriedly swung its tentacles towards him.

Tang Xuhai didn’t think it was wise to stop the tentacles with bare hands, so he kicked them with his foot that was securely protected behind the boots. The tentacles were knocked away but the hooks clasped onto the side of the shoe, almost dragging Tang Xuhai to tumble over.

Using all his strength to withdraw his leg, Tang Xuhai bolted into the alien’s wide-open chest, then he smacked a dozen heavy punches at its chest and eventually sent the alien flying with a vicious uppercut.

“Awesome!” Tang Xuhai gleefully cried out at the top of his lungs.

The alien’s organs were entirely ruptured after his series of ferocious punches. As blood dripped from its mouthparts, the creature fell to the ground and quivered for a moment, then its body recoiled and stopped moving altogether.

After a thorough exercise of all the muscles and bones on his body, Tang Xuhai was in great spirits and no longer minded that he was shamelessly ambushed by three aliens.

He walked over, collected his knife, placed it into the tactical belt then picked up the backpack. Thinking briefly about him almost being dragged down just now, Tang Xuhai decided to take the steel bar with him.

Getting into close combat with these aliens wasn’t safe. He should prepare a handy tool.

Tang Xuhai felt weird that there were three aliens in this supermarket, so he didn’t head back immediately. Instead, he checked inside and outside the supermarket and finally discovered the root cause at the supermarket’s loading point.

There were dozens of corpses lying down there, their skulls all open and empty.

Although he had heard Fu Shiwu talk about it, Tang Xuhai couldn’t help frowning when he saw it with his own eyes.

Then he found something that shouldn’t have appeared beside these bodies. A pistol!

How can they have guns? Tang Xuhai was puzzled. He walked over to pick up the pistol, pulled out the magazine1Refers to the container or detachable receptacle used to hold the cartridges inside a gun. and took a look. It had been half fired, with six bullets left inside.

But no matter how this pistol turned up here, it belonged to him now.

Pinning the pistol into the waist of his trousers, Tang Xuhai strode back to the theater.

Come at me, damn aliens, this man isn’t afraid of you!

Perhaps those three aliens were the only ones around here, so no other aliens jumped out as Tang Xuhai swaggered back, which actually made him quite sad.

When he returned to the bomb shelter, the sun had risen right above his head and it was almost noon.

Tang Xuhai meticulously showed Fu Shiwu all the items that he had gathered, as though he was bestowing treasures.

“Look, sleeping bag! We won’t be afraid of the cold with this one.” Tang Xuhai took out the three sleeping bags. “There is also this, a three-layered multi-purpose lunch box, with handles on each layer. You see, if you turn the iron pad over, it’ll become a handle and you don’t have to be scared of getting burnt.” He opened the lunch box and demonstrated each of the three round compartments to Fu Shiwu.

“And these shoes are for you.” Tang Xuhai grabbed one shoe and flashed it before Fu Shiwu’s eyes. “Your leather shoes must be uncomfortable for running or climbing, and also slippery. Don’t be bothered about these being hot, put them on, there are socks inside.”

“I also found some clothes for you and Wen Zhaoming.” Tang Xuhai took out the clothes and finally pulled out four cans of beer: “Surprise! Beer!!!”

Fu Shiwu looked at Tang Xuhai with utter astonishment, watching him pull out one item to another like he was showing off his performance report.

This Tang Xuhai in front of him didn’t feel right!

Too thrilled? Too energetic? In short, he’s overly excited!

The translator has something to say: Tang Xuhai is too cute I cannot…
