Chapter 103

Fu Shiwu looked at him with puzzlement: “Isn’t it good to be alive? Why are you unhappy?”

Tang Xuhai’s back stiffened. After pondering the thought over and over again, he said in distress: “Do you know you coughed up blood because I crashed into you?”

Fu Shiwu paused: “You crashed into me?”

Crushed by his ‘grave mistake’, Tang Xuhai nodded: “At that time, the armour I had on was extremely heavy, and the speed of the collision was too fast. It was as if you got hit by a car…”

Fu Shiwu finally reacted: “Oh.” After that, he simply picked up another piece of food.

Tang Xuhai watched him behave as if nothing had happened and asked carefully: “Don’t you want to blame me?”

Fu Shiwu gave him a questioning look: “Why should I blame you?”, then he smiled: “You saved me.”

Without his glasses in the way, Fu Shiwu’s smile was remarkably bright, and to respond to that, Tang Xuhai made a very strange move.

He raised his hand and smashed the glass behind him.

Fu Shiwu was stunned: “What are you doing?”

With a blank expression, Tang Xuhai bent down and picked up two pieces of glass while the metal in his hand turned into a cutting knife, and with a “crrr!”,  two circular discs of the same size were cut out from the glass.

In Fu Shiwu’s rather blurry vision, Tang Xuhai directly pulled on the metal wire to shape it into a spectacle frame and set the two discs on top of it. Finishing the task, he placed the hastily made spectacle frame (which only had the looks) on Fu Shiwu’s nose bridge.

The metal spectacle frame was heavier than his resin frame, so Fu Shiwu, not being used to this yet, clutched the frame with both hands.

These lenses had no degree at all, so of course, Fu Shiwu couldn’t see any better.

He wanted to take off these glasses that were probably even less functional than toys, but Tang Xuhai sternly stopped him in his tracks.

“Wear them!” Tang Xuhai said, allowing absolutely no objection.

“Why?” Fu Shiwu looked at him, perplexed.

With Fu Shiwu’s eyes refracted through the lenses made of window glass, they no longer carried that ‘destructive’ ability. Tang Xuhai heaved a sigh of relief, for he could finally shake free from the grasp of that peculiar aura that Fu Shiwu sometimes emanated.

In the past, in order to maintain Fu Shiwu’s cold image, Tang Xuhai stopped others from seeing Fu Shiwu’s no-glass face, but now he himself couldn’t handle it anymore.

Since Tang Xuhai refused to explain, Fu Shiwu pulled the glasses off with annoyance.

Tang Xuhai’s hair almost stood up and he yelled furiously: “I told you to wear them! Don’t you know your face is very innocent-looking?! Who will fear you and pay you any respect after seeing a face like that?! They may just end up teasing you and pinching your cheeks, for there’s no sense of dignity at all!”

Stunned by Tang Xuhai’s roar, Fu Shiwu felt his self-esteem truly hurt.

He quietly lowered his head.

After Tang Xuhai’s heated head cooled down, the ward fell into total silence.

Tang Xuhai dejectedly propped his chin up, words of apologies swirling at his lips, but he simply couldn’t let them out.

A moment later, unable to bear this sort of atmosphere any further, Tang Xuhai heaved a loud sigh: “Argh —”

Irritated, he scratched the short hair on his head and said: “I’m sorry. I’ve crossed the line”

Fu Shiwu came to a pause. Raising his head, he looked at Tang Xuhai and said aggrievedly: “Even if I want to keep them on, I can’t. The glasses you made have no nose pads at all; they aren’t wearable.”

Tang Xuhai was struck dumb.

After staring at Fu Shiwu in absolute silence for a while, he blinked hard and stretched out his hand to get the glasses back: “I’ll get you some nose pads first. You wear these contingency glasses for now. I’ll definitely find some real glasses to replace these.”

Since it was a matter concerning his image and ‘saving face’, Fu Shiwu readily offered his cooperation. Under his guidance, Tang Xuhai adjusted back and forth a few times and finally created a qualified pair of nose pads.

Pushing up the heavy metal glasses, Fu Shiwu gazed at the Tang Xuhai’s back as he took his leave, hoping that the man would quickly get him the real thing.

Tang Xuhai looked back as he was leaving the hospital, feeling both regretful and annoyed with himself.

The truth was, he had no idea what happened that made him say such hurtful words.

If he was to be honest, Fu Shiwu’s face wasn’t so innocent. It just looked very… adorable.

These messy and inexplicable emotions ran rampant in Tang Xuhai’s chest, making him feel extremely uneasy.

Whatever that was, he believed that the root of the problem must be due to Fu Shiwu’s ‘poker face’. Thinking left and right, Tang Xuhai still headed straight to the commercial street to purchase glasses for Fu Shiwu.

In any case, I have to solve this problem quickly.

Out of the guilt that he had hurt Fu Shiwu’s feelings, Tang Xuhai bought him several pairs of glasses, all of which were made from the best type of resin.

Fu Shiwu was lost for words as he stared at the row of frames and lenses in front of him.

Tang Xuhai waved a pair of glasses at his face: “This gives a very smart look, but it’s not suitable for you right now. Let’s keep it as a spare.” He picked up another one and shook his head: “Too chic, too trendy. It doesn’t match your current aura!” Then came the next pair: “…Why does it make you seem a bit slow-witted.” And yet another one: “This… you look like some sort of CEO…”

With a dumbfounded expression, Fu Shiwu completely let Tang Xuhai do whatever the man wanted on his face.

He had bought enough glasses to last Fu Shiwu a whole lifetime, okay!

Eventually, Fu Shiwu picked one pair by himself, and Tang Xuhai reluctantly said: “It’s roughly there.”

Fu Shiwu simply stopped talking. Weren’t these almost identical to his previous glasses?

A while later, Wen Zhaoming arrived. Tang Xuhai now felt glad that he had acted so quickly.

“Shiwu, how are you feeling today?” Wen Zhaoming walked in with a bouquet of flowers.

Seeing this bunch of blooming flowers, Fu Shiwu’s eyes beamed brightly.

“Much better.” He couldn’t help asking: “Where did the flowers come from?”

“This is a get-well gift from the survivors of Ping Nan.” Wen Zhaoming put the bouquet of flowers on the bedside table.

Tang Xuhai stood up from the stool by the bed and said: “I’ll go find a vase.”

As Wen Zhaoming nodded, Tang Xuhai head out, planning to go to the nurses’ station to ask for a vase.

At this moment, Wen Zhaoming glanced at the broken glass and asked with bewilderment: “Why is this window broken?”

After sending Fu Shiwu through a medical check, Wen Zhaoming had fallen into a deep sleep. Today was the first time he had come to see Fu Shiwu in the ward.

It seemed that under his coercion, the people in the hospital had given Fu Shiwu a run-down ward. Thinking that Fu Shiwu was neglected by them, Wen Zhaoming felt a little irate.

Fu Shiwu said with a hint of embarrassment: “It’s okay, around noon, Xuhai, he… accidentally broke the glass. I already informed the people at the station; they would get someone to replace it.”

Fu Shiwu said vaguely, brushing Tang Xuhai’s strange behaviour aside with a simple ‘accidentally’.

Wen Zhaoming let out a soft “ah”, feeling good to know that Fu Shiwu wasn’t being neglected.

“When will you be discharged? Did the doctor mention any specific day?” Wen Zhaoming moved his prosthesis to adjust his body’s center of gravity.

“You sit down first.” Catching sight of his movement, Fu Shiwu stretched his body over to pull the chair Tang Xuhai was sitting on earlier.

But how would Wen Zhaoming dare to him move? This guy still had a drip on his hand!

Following the rise of the heterogeneous molecules, most mutants and ability users had their physiques immensely enhanced and their recovery speed also became relatively faster. However, Fu Shiwu himself was a special circumstance. As such, Tang Xuhai had asked the hospital to nurse him with a normal treatment plan used prior to the emergence of the sky veil.

Fu Shiwu suffered from a thoracic contusion. After his X-ray was taken, the hospital didn’t detect any excessive bleeding, and there wasn’t much clotting inside the body either. No surgery was needed to open the chest in order to clear the congestion.

The doctor only required him to consume anti-inflammatory medicine and analgesics, then let himself rest in bed and stay away from strenuous activities. After that, the clotted blood would naturally be absorbed and dissipated by the body.

As such, the doctor prescribed him a series of infusion medicine, all of which followed the treatment method used before the aliens came over Earth.

If it was now, mutants and ability users wouldn’t need to absorb much IV fluid at all. The doctors would observe first and carry out the treatment accordingly in consideration that the human body now could transform into many different types.

As Wen Zhaoming sat down, Fu Shiwu said: “The doctor said that I’ll be discharged in a week.”

If it wasn’t for Tang Xuhai’s insistence, Fu Shiwu actually thought that hospitalisation was unnecessary. After the sky veil opened, he had gone through many days of hardships and his body had grown a lot stronger.

“A week?” Out of his expectation, Wen Zhaoming shook his head in dissatisfaction: “You have to stay at least ten days, or even half a month. Of course, it would be best if you can stay for a full month.”

Fu Shiwu looked at him in surprise: “Why?”

Wen Zhaoming said lightly: “If not, how can we emphasise the hard work that our corps had put in during this siege? Our corps commander not only went to the battle to search for the Level-3 aliens but also got wounded by an explosion caused by the last soldier’s suicide attack. He suffered internal injuries and was bedridden…”

Following Wen Zhaoming’s narration, Fu Shiwu’s jaw literally dropped.

He stuttered: “But, but, my injury was caused by Xuhai rushing over and crashing into me when he tried to save me.”

“Won’t it be bad to turn things around like that?” Fu Shiwu asked apprehensively.

“What did you just say?” Tang Xuhai, the man who had grown extremely sensitive towards this topic, watched the two of them in vigilance with a flower vase in his hand.
